question about custom arm rest
Sunday, May 07, 2006 2:49 PM
well i am working on molding the arm rest to give it a unique shape, but i am trying to figure, instead of building tons of layers, can i use some body filler( or somthing like it) to get the right shape then glass over it? will this cause problems after the fact? if so then i can always just make a mold then go back and take the filler back off, just was trying to aviod that step. what do you gods of fiberglass think?

What about the spray on insulation???
Or maybe the fiberglass would melt it or somethin? IDK, just an idea.

I would not recommend using fiberglass over body filler.

is there a better way to accomplish this? i am kinda afraid that the body filler will crack under the glass, and cause the glass to crack. any imput would be apreash

several. you can make a frame out of wood then wrap it in cloth.

you can spray on expanding foam. let it dry, then shape it how u want

floral foam at a craft stores. shape it how u want and cover.

non hardening modeling clay (leave a way to pull the clay out)
