I want a black dash, but no glare, Possible?
Thursday, August 17, 2006 9:25 AM
I am in the proses of getting rid of the charcoal colored crap on the interior, And I have ridden in peoples cars that have a bad reflection of the dash on the windsheild, and that I something I do not want. Is there anyway that I could get it black, but not have the glossy glare?

Exactly. I re-wrapped mine and its the nice flat black color unless I use vinyl shine.

I was going to do mine in tweed, but I think I might do it in vinyl and do my seats in cloth....

With the AZ heat I am afraid all of the tweed stuff will eventually dry up and rip....

That happend to a friend of mine in cali recentely....so I am not sure....

Either use a flat black half way or sand the regular paint with like 1000 grit just to take off the shine.... and if all else fails the dust thing works great!

I used gloss black spray-on vinyl dye, and the only time i get a reflection on the windshield is when i pass directly under a street light....never notice any glare...just a hell of a lot hotter...ignore the wiring, im putting in a new panel...

There is a lot of glare in the photo, but its pretty much unnoticable while driving...

Suede would be uber cool, but I am already having troubles just trying to re wrap the center armrest in vinyl, would suede or tweed be easier to manage with?

Yeah, suede doesn't stretch like vinyl does. Vinyl has a somewhat of an elasticity to it. Suede is just another type of leather and if you've ever worked with leather you know it's not always easy. But for the dash it'd be a bit easier because the corners aren't as tight of a radius as the armrest, which is where the stretching gets tricky. The downside is if you mess up, suede is also more expensive.
