Okay, so I got it mounted on the dash, and it's all good. I lost the directions to the thing, so I went to the web site, and printed them out again.
I know, or I think I know, that the 2.4L is a Distributor less system. So, My question is, what wire do I splice to get the tach to read the engine RPM's? I've been told it's not that hard to do, but, I'm confused.
Is there pictures out there of a installation? I kinda need pictures.
Thanks for the help.
if i remeber correctly, you need to wire it in to both coil packs....unless the tach has a 2cyl. setting, then you just splice into the coil pack and viola, however, i wouldnt go cutting just yet, its been a long time since i put a tach into a cavalier, im sure someone will chime in with the right thing to do
i put the exact tach on my 2.2l ecotec and it is also distibutless and since my bro works for gm he got on the "restricted" part of the website and looked it up and we had to splice into the white wire that goes into the pack thingy on top of the engine lol so i hope that helps oh yeah and its the green wire that has to b spliced into the white one
Do you think It'd be the same for the 2.4l? It's none ecotec, so I'm wondering if it's the same...
Here's a picture of mt engine bay:
Is the little box your talking about the one towards the back of the bay against the body of the car? It's got a bunch of wires coming out of the left (passenger) side, is that it?
And, I seem to have lost the wire splices that came with it. Can I get them at any auto part store? or would it be better to go to a Home Depot or Lowes type place?
haha no no that black box on the "firewall" is your cruise control box lol...
I think he's talking about the box thats under the engine cover, where it says 2.4L twin cam
take those 4 bolts out, 13mm
unhook the icm harness on the right side there...just push the tab in and pull
i dont know which wire it is tho

it goes to your coil pack. if you dont know where they are find your spark plugs and trace the wires all the way back and it takes you to your coil pack. i dont know if its the same as the 2.2 but on my coil pack there was 2 harnesses. a 6pin and a 2pin. i had to splice into the pink wire on the 2pin harness but then again that was for the adaptor since my 2.2 needed an adaptor.
