For those with pedals..
Monday, March 05, 2007 4:19 PM
For those who have aftermarket pedals, my question is simple:
(I did a search for this, and only came up with "what looks good" pedal questions)

If you buy them in colors(I was considering black/blue to go with my neons, dvd player, and some other black/blue accessories in my car), do the colors fade off? I had a local guy at a shop tell me he bought a set off andy's, and within four months - the colors seemed to rub off.

And I know some of you think they're "rice" - but whatever, that's your opinion - suit yourself. I'm just trying to figure out if the colors really fade as bad as this guy says, and I need to buy just some plain black ones.

Yeah.

I just bought some plain ones, and now I get to drill 4 holes in the small ass clutch pedal, and the small ass brake pedal. This is going to be fun. I'm not even going to look at the gas pedal yet.

Aftermarket pedals are a pain in the a$$. I used to have this really kickass set that was chrome, with this hard plastic grips, with these blue flames that lit up. Loved those pedals, they gripped, looked kickass, and went on without a hassle and stayed on. Then when the Winter came, water from the snow on my shoes started seeping in where the flames were and started to short out the system. There went that one . . .

Then I had this really nifty set of blue chrome pedals with carbon fiber inserts on them. Looked cool . . . HA! Keeping them on was a nightmare on its own. Plus in the snow/rain, it was kind of a task to keep from slipping off the clutch. The gas/brake stayed on without a problem, but when it came to the clutch pedal . . . the longest I had it on was about a week.

*insert launch* . . . vrooooommmm....
*puts clutch in for 2nd gear... BINK!*
"Hmmmm, what was that...?"
*puts clutch in for 3rd gear...THONK, BING DA BING! *clutch ends up on floor*
*insert excessive line of swearing*

The pedals were cool, but the way to keep them on just sucked ridiculous balls. If you are going to go with an aftermarket set and you want to drill holes, go for it. Drilling and small screws would secure those things, but if you want a different set or something else, do you really want holes in your pedals?

I bought me car with Red/silver Ractive pedals. I highly do not recommend. The second you had moisture on the sole of your shoe, your foot would be slipping off the clutch and brake all the time. I removed them strictly because I felt they were unsafe.

I have the carbon fiber sparco pedals in my car, and when it rains/snows any type of moisture I've been good!!!

Quality usually depends on company rep and sadly price. I would recommend companies like Momo and Sparco which specialize in race equipment. I have the Spacro Reflex and no problems at all, love them. Anyways, companies like Pilot, Reactive, Ichibahn and other cheaper brands will usually lead to being unsafe and wearing out quicker because most are clip on covers. I would recommend Drill ons over covers since, I screwed mine on and red loctited the nut so if wont come off under normal conditions, but will with force if I ever want to remove them. But it is all up to the design/color and price you are willing to spend. Both momo and sparco sell colored versions and color insert versions of most of their designs but Pilot, Reacive, Ichibahn sell a wider range of color combos and designs.

YES!!! Those pedals are awesome. Never had a problem at all with grip, slipping off with moisture, coming loose, etc. Once those were on, those things didn't move an inch. It sucks that they started to short on me, I liked them too

I installed mine. It really wasn't hard at all; anyone who says they are a pain in the ass has obviously never done it. All it took was a simple drill bit, and drilling 12 holes into the pedals. Just rip the rubber grips off, drill 12 holes, and screw them in. I've had mine on for awhile now, no problems. Looks better, grips better, and it took about thirty minutes to do.. There's no need to weld anything.

"never done it" . . . I've had two sets, I think I have done it before and I've done it for other people too.

Difference, I didn't destroy my pedal doing it. 12 holes . . . wow.
Re: For those with pedals..

You didn't drill holes?

Then I would love to know how you did it safely.

Yeah, I really destroyed my pedals. I destroyed them totally! I mean, I drilled 12 holes in three pedals. I mean, I could NEVER fit the rubber piece back on - right? It totally wouldn't grab with 4 holes in each pedal.

Get over yourself. I drilled 4 holes in each pedal to fit the holes on hte pedals - so the pedals would be safely mounted.

Jesus christs man. Look at yourself. Put your panties back on. I wasn't directly insulting you, nor questioning your knowledge. What I said is fairly simple - it's not dangerous, nor is it hard. It's fairly safe - and easy, and adds look IMO. You people blow @!#$ out of proportion way too frequently.

They do come with latches and screws and instructions which explain how to do it safely without drilling.

So you are saying I don't know what I'm talking about. I said I've done it and they were a pain in the ass. I was trying to explain it in a way so you didn't have to drill holes. The way they are supposed to be put on. You did it differently, and that works for you. YOU didn't have to come back and say I didn't know what I was talking about.

But auto.
I bought a set of the 'carbon fibre' look from Ractive, after my father drove the car the 'carbon fibre look' chipped off. Gas pedal now has no cover just the metal look. I'm still looking for a set that're just straight normal style in chrome, or the 2 pieced/2 toned ones. Can't find a photo of those ones sorry, I tried, again they're hard to find as I can't even find a photo lol ...

I have some Ichibahn Hole Series Pedals on mine. Seem to be holding up pretty good. I still need to install the dead pedal, though.

Too bad my instructions said drill. I originally bought a set of Ractive, and swapped them for SRP. Strange, they both said drill. I was saying it extremely easy to do - took all of, what, thirty minutes, to completely finish it. Sigh.

Thats weird. I put on two different sets in my car, I put on a set in my brothers and my friends car, and none of the sets said to drill. It only had brackets, little screws and what not and had instructions for how to bolt it onto the pedal. If yours did though and its working, then there isn't a problem. Least you get to avoid the hassle of... *put in clutch for gear* - - *pedal pops off*. Hey, if it works though, more points to ya
Re: For those with pedals..

Well, I haven't put on as many pedals as you have.. I've only put on the SRP set I have now, but my Ractive set said to drill, too. I would think it'd be more secure to drill, but if it's on - it's on. My bad for assuming stuff.

goth them in red and a set in blue. blue are about three years old and light up and are still blue like new. the red about 7 months old and red like new and working. great grip and looks great. i had apcs in my last car and in my new one they both shorted out yet not cause of water at first io thought of that but looked and took them apart turned out that the wires just at the top of the pedal (the weakest part) came loose bad cause of all the shifting and braking the pedal moved and the wires were wiggle alot. its copper u wiggle it enought likethe pedals do during driveing they break. that was how mine shorted out. then again apc pedals that light suck i had 6 pairs(got dirt cheap on cleance) probly why and mu boys on his third set all breaking yet redline ones great.

Went through sets of Ractives with the rubber inserts and chrome. Both discoloured and or the inserts fell out. I got a set of basic carbon look APCs and they are the shizzle. Been on a year now. No fade, no issues.
