volt gauge to battery....question

ive read all the posts about hooking up a volt gauge, but have a specific question. well, 2 questions......

ive read most gauges have 3 wires on them, but mine has 2 wires....pos and neg. and stays illuminated all the time. i want to have it hooked up to my 2nd battery. is my best option to have the power line on a switch so i can just turn it on and off? since obviously it would otherwise be on at all times.

and should i fuse the power wire to the gauge since it is direct to the battery?

thanks in advance

relay off a switched 12v+ source (acc wire in the stereo harness for example)

Here's for fog lights, but a volt gauge is no different, just need ground, input, output and trigger

You could use a relay. Have the relay switched by the ACC lead so the relay closes when the key is turned, then supply power to the relay with the second battery and have it output to the gauge.

You could rig it to come on with the dash lights too.
