Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter: Picture

My Hurst Pistol Grip just arrived today. I have to admit, after I ordered it, I was kind of questioning my decision. Man was I ever wrong to do that. With this thing mounted on my B&M short throw it's created the magic shifter combination. The grip feels like a natural extension of your hand, and the shifts are buttery smooth through the neutral point, with a solid arrival in each gear. It's hard to explain, but with the Pistol Grip, it feels like you're shifting, rather than just moving some knob around. Oh yeah, and it looks super mean and sexy all in one (whatever that means... lol). So obviously, I would highly recommend this combo to anyone thinking about it. Here's a pic for your viewing pleasure:

that would be an awkward handle. i wouldn't ever put one on a 5-speed car.

so much for short throw. it just doesn't seem non-muscle car material.

it looks nice and i can see the comfort in gripping it. maybe its just me but i prefer the ball type shifters because for the fact i just hold the very top of the knob.

a taller handle doesn't mean it isn't a short-throw anymore

what makes it a short throw is the modification to where the shift cables attach NOT the height of the shifter

Obviously every one will have their own opinions for comfort, but for me personally, once I wrapped my hand around the grip, it was the absolute furthest thing from awkward. When your arm is at rest at your side, your wrist's natural position places your hand in a vertical alignment. With the design of the finger grip, your hand sits very naturally on the shifter, and very comfortably around it as well. Again, for me personally, I will never go back to a ball/knob style shifter.

Exactly like PJ just stated, the short throw characteristics are not affected in any way, and I would further argue that this setup allows you to shift faster (possibly not in all cases, but for me, without a question).

I used to somewhat shift that way, and that's why I second-guessed myself after I placed the order. I kept thinking, "Damn, I should have just got a T-handle instead...". I'm glad I didn't though.

Looks aggressive! I can deffinently see the comfort of it with respects to wrist position and what have you. How tall is it over the stocker?

LoL that is rich! Nice. Odd to see a Hurst on a sport compact.
That will screw on the B&M's leaver, correct?
Have any more pics?

yeah, i see how someone can really like that style but i was just saying for me and the way I drive. should've been more descriptive about what i meant, i guess

and yes, i see how the "short throw" REALLY isn't affected but i was just saying it looks alittle tall. lol, as ramairsedan was asking.

it's a nice addition but not my style. congrats though.

Ive always loved the pistol grip shifters.... but ive always been a bigger fan of the t-handles myself

looks pretty cool nonetheless

Yeah, that's another thing I was worrying about. I had a MOMO on there before, and by the time everything is said and done with the install, it's only about 1/4 taller than the MOMO knob-style (which is for sale now if anyone wants it, black, full leather-wrapped). The angle I have the pic at makes it look huge, but it's really not.

Yep, screws right on. It's about a 1 minute install. It comes with quite a few color-sized adapters for a bunch of applications. If I remember correctly, Hurst and B&M are of the same parent company, hence the no-mess fit.

As for other pics, I'll try to get some tomorrow (I have to take some of my turbo setup as well for another post, just to show people what a non-blinged out, ugly setup looks like, LOL). Everthing's getting revamped one area at a time though, as well as new things still added. In fact, my methanol injection kit just arrived today, so hopefully by Sunday she'll be burnin' alcohol.

Like I was sayin' in the above man, I thought the same, 'cause B&M makes a pretty sweet T-handle, but once I gripped this thing, I'll never use anything else (I'm pretty sure that's the cue for some smart-ass to chime in with, "That's what she said...").

I don't like many products to be honest. I have a lot of crap on my car, and most of it I like, some of it I don't, but there's not much there that right away I'm pumped about, and all "hell-yeah". But even today, just driving to work, the second I grab that stupid shifter it's like "yup, this is sweeeeeet". LOL

Actually the height would make a difference, just not as much of a difference as changing the pivot point.

I used to have that shifter in another car.....at first I was leery of it, but once I griped it I loved it. only downside is that it gets HOT in the sun.

F "multi-quotes", LOL, they look like ass. Plus, I've got 37 posts to use up for this month, so it's time to let 'em burn.

(Once again, no multi-quoting here, it's all back-to-back baby)

I'll try to get you some pics of the Momo held next to the Hurst to verify the size difference (possibly with my car running as rich as it is right now, I inhaled a great deal of fumes prior to making that sizing judgment, and I was way off, we'll see).

it looks good. i like it and all. but from a visual aspect, i cant see it flowing with the interior. i just got the whole muscle car to sport compact differential thing going on in my head. i dunno. depending on price, i dunno if it would be worth it to me. i would LOVE to have that shifter in my car, but cant see it flowing inside a cavalier and looking at home there ya know? BTW, did u remove the reverse lockout on the short throw? and if so, how? thanks man. adios

On the other hand....you have other fingers.
