ok i need some help real bad i have a 99 sunfire automatic that had starting problems. So i took to the shop and the told me it was the ignition switch causing all my problems. Well i had a 96 5 speed cavilier that i took the key lock switch and ignition switch out of. Put it all in with the difference being that it had the lil button on the switch. I programed the pass-lock and was all fine then i noticed my digital odometer quit working and that i never fixed my starting problem. Well i deiced to put the old stuff back back int o see if the odometer would work and cause i was tired of using two different keys. Well needless to say when i did i went to reprogram it the pass-lock and it started right up and ran fine but with the theft light on. I even unplugged the wires to the key lock switch and it still starts and runs but with the light on. I'm lost and need to know what to do. Could it honestly be my cluster since my fuel gauge don't work and the odometer. I need some opinions. Another ? if i change the cluster can i come from a 98?
I had the same problem with my 99 fire. cluster stopped working, digital odometer went out. This was when I still had warrenty so I got a new cluster for free.
Since then every now and then my odometer goes all wacky but I found out a way to get it working again (hit the dash with my hand).

see that's what i though could be some of my problems since i belive i read the cluster works through the switch to start it to but the mechanic said it was my ignition switch causing power to not go right where it was suppose to so i tried that and didn't fix it but now my problem is i put the old on back in and thef light is on and i can't get it to go off. But runs fine even with out being to reprogram the different key lock and switch which doesn't make sense. I can even unplug the key switch and it still runs in which i would belive it shouldn't do. Does anyone know howreprogram it for the old switch since it starts fine. i've tried unhooking the battery to.
