Replacing the lifters most certainly is necessary.

Tell me you at least inspected them. I had 2 cracked lifters at 50,000 miles.

Replacement is recommended, but definately not needed as long as you inspect them and they look okay. Many, and I mean MANY people here on JBO have done the secret cam swap without new lifters and have had NO problems.

Ding Ding Ding You are right. Like my daddy always said if it ain't broke don't fix it. Many times people can install new lifters that go bad faster then the broken in ones. I plan on checking mine when I do my install just to be on the safe side. Cause it my beater I'm going to depend on to hold me over till my build is done. I didn't want to be the one to say it first that is is only recommended to do so cause me and my 'Asian" ispired car don't know anything at all. Not like I don't see techs put engine back together with used parts at my dealership I work at..

Sweetness how come you have not PMed me yet? You where so on a roll callin' me out when you just could assume I don't know anything. I don't mean to be a dick, but don't call me out unless you know I'm wrong. I'm glad you made a damn fool out of yourself. Thank you and drive thur.

Way to follow me around dingbat.

First off learn how to spell "Through."

As for replacing the lifters, yeah it sure is a recommended replacement, but so is the waterpump when you pull the cams. Why do we do it? Because more often than not at least one has failed... it's actually kind of surprising how stock LD9 lifters like to crack in strange and unnoticable spots...

And I'm sorry if I have the motor open that far I'm going to replace a worn part.

Also, while its only recommended with hybrid cams to replace the lifters, it is REQUIRED with all new cams to replace the lifters.

I didn't wan't to waste any more time on you TRDRicerRacer. If you have something to say to me do it on your own time and off the org. Don't hide what you have to say to me in forum-colored text.

To the original poster - I didn't mention before, great pictures. It's always nice to have shots of the motor apart while you're working on it for future reference.

WoW thanks for showin' me I can't spell. I was never was shown phonics till my 7th grade year. Till then I learned everything from memory. I have to say that if that was the only thing I missed I'm doing good I would say. I'm not following you around by any means. If I wanted to do that you would know it. I also love how you now have not only called me a ricer, but a rice racer. Good one. I'm shakin' in my knees. Ask anyone you want who I am. I'm in no means some little kid tryin' to prove myself. I've been around for a while around here. I'm sure I'm well know my many people that will back me that I'm just here to help. Grow up..

I didn't replace my lifters, and I put 6,000 miles on the car in the first two weeks after I put it back together..... trip to the Bash last year and back....

In fact, my lifters are quieter now that I've put the secret cams in. Before, I had a lifter tick.... now, it's dead silent.

Lenko you are the man. Thanks for that add. I'm glad you are on the other board to help me out when I need you. We are going to be doing some major stuff to both of my J's in the new few weeks and months for the Cavfire.

everything the lube and gaskets came from napa. i checked advance auto and they were trying to sell me the intake and exhaust manifold gaskest and i sat there and argued with the guy and funny thing he owned a cavy z24 bragging 200hp n/a and didnt know what i was talking about for gaskets, as for straight from gm they were way to expensive like $25 for each

I just got back from Napa, I got the general purpose engine assembly grease. I was looking for the kind you have, but they didn't have it.

TRD Cavfire... STFU!!!!
This was a completely seperate thread that had nothing to do with the other one. There was no reason to start anything here. You say you aren't some immature kid, well sorry, but you just proved that you are. You are like some 3rd grade kid chasing around another smaller kid trying to agrivate him enough to get a reaction. Grow up, get a life and go back to building your car. Hopefully your mechanical skills are better than your manners and maturity.
Now thank you and drive through... Retard.

Holy fack.... if you don't have anything good to say, why don't you take your own advice and

STFU

I got my assembly lube and oil additive (to quieten the lifters after a rebuild, I was told) from GM. Wasn't that expensive.... and I'd rather pay a bit more to do it right

WoW o WoW! Well I'm sorry you and your friend are having issues with me, but really I don't see how you are gettin' so worked up about anything. I'm not callin' people names or anything. I just wanted to have your friend tell me why I'm RiceRacer? I guess I just don't understand that statement. Please grow up. Remember I'm the younger one in this.
