CAD Turbo Project
Tuesday, September 19, 2006 7:51 PM
There was a post a while ago where someone modeled an engine. So I figured I would make a post about the turbo my partner and I made in Unigraphics NX3. This was a school project.

It is a T3 turbo of of a Ryan Hoffa's old cavalier. Thanx bud for letting me use it.

Thanx todd,

Yeah, our teacher told us not to worry about threads. They are a standard that engineers all know, as long as its labeled. This program runs kinda slow on our computers and the thread function just kills it sometimes, especially with the amount of sketches and bodies on this and everyone elses parts. But I might do it later if i feel spunky.

But thank you everyone for the compliments. This semester is the first time i have used a CAD program ever so I am kinda proud of myself.

Good questions. The bolts are also a standard part, so we are not required to draw it for class. I might later. The clamps for the turbine housing, when I picked up the turbo, the turbine housing was seperated from the center section and there were no clamps. If I can find some in the next couple days I will get them modeled too.

I still want to work with it some more. The Turbine housing was rushed and isn't quite as accurate as the rest of the parts. The center section could also use some more detail in the bearing area. I also need to add the thrust bearings in there, they are modeled, but on my buddies computer. The copressor housing was the hardest. That is a pretty complex curve and although it is very close, i need to tweak it some. It didnt quite hollow out right, and i need to adjust the helix i used to sweep it. It kinda over laps itself right now. It probably wont happen for a long while because i am in my last few days for this semester and start my work term, I cant use this program outside of the schools network.

I like it, the only thing I would do would make each component a different color for clarity. It always helps. I job on the turbine wheel!
