The Gay Tan Ca... uh... racecar in the making :)

Edit - Since people are asking...

The silver cav has a 6-7 year 100,000 mile extended warranty, it has ABS, Cruise control, power windows, power locks, sun roof, keyless entry, etc... it only has 25,000 miles on it. Basically what I'm gonna do is put the silver cav back to how it looked... the hood and front bumper it has, LS SPort sides and rear, the 18's, with almost no performance related stuff, just a couple minor things. I'm gonna make the silver cav a decent looking daily driver.

All the performance stuff, the suspension things, etc.. are all gonna go on the tan cav. I'm gonna strip the interior down to nothing and basically turn the tan cav into strictly a racecar. I have to much fun autocrossing and stuff to want to finsih the silver one into a show car... I really have no interest spending my days off geting up early to sit next to my car in a parking lot. Drag racing never really did much for me, car shows were fun but they were thin preaty quickly, but I've really taken a liking to racing that involves turning. So I'm gonna make one car near useless it will be the one without the extended warranty and no power options, less value, etc..

I've had the money to finish the silver car for a while now but I keep finding reasons to put it off.... I keep puting it off because I've been unsure as to what I want to do with the car, and I wasn't willing to spend that kind of money I was ready to dump into it, when I didn't know what to do with the car. But my mind is officially made up. I want to start geting body parts ASAP and start getting it back to usable condition again.

Anyways back to the original post.

So saturday afternoon and sunday I spent my time pulling the front subframe to get the front sway bar off, took off the rear sway bar, struts/springs/mounts on all 4 corners, front and rear strut bars, control arms, valve cover and fuel rail, and finally front seats...... on BOTH cars hahahah plus I did my interior spring clean on the tan cav.

If you didn't know already the silver cav project has ended, its going back to near stock with some suspension upgrades and intake/exhaust with a nice stereo, its going to be the daily driver.... the striped down, lightweight, base model, no option tan cav is geting the performance parts and geting turned basically into a racecar. Thats the new project, no more cars shows... just racing.

Anyways, I started swaping parts, the Gay Tan Cav has the first stage preaty much done, the suspension.

-Koni Yellows
-Ground Control coilovers
-strut mounts all the way around
-A-arm bushings
-Eibach front sway bar
-Addco rear sway bar
-Vibrant front strut bar
-Vibrant rear strut bar
-RKSport upper motor mount
-Prothane lower motor mount
-Prothane rear trans mounts
-Prothane front trans mounts

The ride is AWSOME, incredable. Not the most comfortable but extremely responsive, the car literally feels like its on rails. It turns so hard yet seems to do it effortlessly almost no body roll, awsome, absolutely awsome. Its not bouncy at all, the ride is very firm but not painfully stiff.

I put the Tenzo R seats in the tan cav, they definetly help you stay in front of the steering wheel under hard cornering. only complaint is how close the brakcets make the seat to the dash. With the seat all the way back your very close to the steering wheel, right where I would normally adjust the seat for actually racing the car but I would like them to go back another 4-5 inches for driving to and from the races.

And the nice shiney bling bling hand polished fuel rail and valve cover went on as well.

anyways pics....

And since I had the valve cover off...... Castrol full synthetic FTW, motor is CLEAN. (I change the oil every 2K with full synthetic)

There is still plenty of work left to do, the turbo setup is going on or being traded for a GM supercharger setup, haven't decieded for sure yet, either way with a built motor. Nect on the to buy list is Tracklites and Wilwoods, then comes the power and LOTS of weight reduction, I'm striping it out completely. But in the mean time I need to get the silver car back in one piece, sell a ton of stuff, get a few things, and get the plates renewed on it.

kinda disappointed about the silver cav...why did you decide to make the tan cav the 'race car,' didnt the silver one already have a bunch of engine mods too it?

no offense but people disapointment about not being able to see the silver car done doesn't really matter to me, I'm doing what I want with my money for me Again no offense to anyone in particular, I'm just tired of people complaining to me about the silver car, my theory... if you want to see it finished then starting sending the money to do it.

any Prowler this isn't dirrected at you, just speaking in general.

also rear the original post again, I edited it to answer the questions.

I loved the silver one, I just had to much fun racing to want to go back to car shows and the silver cav is by far the better option for the daily driver.

and no this one wont be boosted hahaha, I'm just gonna give it a K&N drop in and a short throw shifter, nothing else,
well I say that now, eventually I might do front and rear strut bars and a mild drop with just springs. But this is my new
daily driver / winter beater. Its ugly with no options but you can't find a newer car with less miles for cheaper. Plus the
fact that I have plenty of spare parts for things break hahaha and I know this car inside and out from working on the
silver one so much.

Thats kinda what i figured would happen and i completely understand your reason for it. As much as i hate seeing ya ditch it(show car), i personally think i would prolly do the same. Is the GTC gonna be strictly autox or you going to do some drag with it as well in the mix?

Good luck mang.

oh, to each his own. i say get a 3rd cav, one thats in-between and use IT as the daily driver, that way if you ever just feel like cleaning a car up and winning some awards with it insted of changing brake pads/rotors and buying tires all the time-you certainly can.

lol, yeah man... nobody said you had to have 2 perfect cars right off the bat. take ur time... if the silver cav is to be the show car, maybe this time around you can spend that extra hour getting a certain part just perfect before you put it on etc... if it takes 10 years, it takes 10 years. either way you'll have 2 cars you can be proud as hell of and have no regrets.

i cant make fun of you.... I left the carshow scene entirely when i traded the cav in for the balt. its all performance for me now. i doubt the balt will ever see a show. I'm thinking about autocrossing it as well. Good luck with the tan car.

Re: The Gay Tan Ca... uh... racecar in the making :)
Tuesday, May 15, 2007 6:57 AM
before you strip the interior out, i would sit down and look at the rules for autocross and figure out what class you actually want to run. If you want to stay out of the mod classes, you need an interior

I think car shows are pointless, but if that the way people see fun then...by all means. So congrats on ditching that scene and good luck with the autocrossing

I personally love your decision. The silver cav has been at the top of the Jbody ladder for a long time! It was definently one of the best cav's to ever roll through this site. The look was finished on that cav. Perfectly modded, clean, and classy car. Anything else done to that car would have been too much. So I'm glad you are retiring it. Now let's see the GTC move to the top of the Jbody performance vehicle list! WOHOOOO! Keep up posted as it transforms!
