Couple updates and some bad news...

Got around to doing the LED cluster swap...

Daytime...

Nighttime..

Well i finally got around to having my resonator slapped onto the car since i thought i could get away w/o having one...

18" of love...

Couple Exhaust clips for ya all. I'll get some better drive by's eventually..

Before W/o Resonator.

After W/ Resonator

Then i've been spending the past 2 weeks fighting with this little upgrade.

Soo... this should have just been an easy swap everything in and out trick. But Noooooo...... Seeing she's seen 7 NY winters out of the 9 years of her lift, the under carriage of the car has taken its toll from winter w/ salt. Even with under carriage washes. My stock wheel bearings were sealed to the stock dust shield and they wouldn't budge. All my stock brake line fittings were rusted to high hell and back along with the rear portion brake lines. Stripped out a torx bolt and had to drill that damn thing out and go to P&P and replaced it since GM wanted 9 bucks a bolt. No thanks. Swapping out the front rubber lines to SS, bleeder valves broke off the calipers inside, so needed new front calipers as well and the fittings up front were shot. Had a hell of a time flaring brake lines never doing it before. Finally figured that out in the past 2 days. But before getting it all done, the wrench slipped off the flaring tool vise and my wrist bone went into my strut bolt with a good amount of force for me to fracture my wrist and i am now out of work for a week. Its only a hair line but this sucks. I cannot return till dr. clears me. I got kicked out on friday when they saw it in an air cast and me loading 70 boxes with just my left hand.

So with all those minor problems finally comes the big let down for me this summer. My paint job, its not getting done.

According to all the body shops i have been two, the price of my paint job has sky rocketed from last year when they told me one thing to this year. I just do not have $6,000 to drop on a paint job for (stock white) and on a car thats worth $4000 most. I'm really thinking over what i should do here since this is ob sured. Trying to keep a 9 yr old car going is a tough call, but with only 59K miles on her, she's still very young.

Well here is a few more photos of a couple shows she's been at....

Thats it for now... C&C is always welcomed.

6k for stock paint is nuts. i know people near me that pay under 3k for a complete color change and not some macco crap either. thats crazy.

The real bad news is that your drinking corona light...yuck

Looks good though, nice upgrades. What the hell kind of headlights are on the orange car next to you in the pics?

First: I LOVE your car.

Second: Like said above... 6K is WAY too much for getting her painted. It should only cost 2-3K and that's if you don't have a friend or someone you know that will cut ya a deal. I think you need to check some other places or even check some other towns/bigger towns nearby.

ur paint looks pretty good to me man, id say spray the body kit and handles and be done with it. i to am going through the same crap with body shops around here, the least i was quoted was $5000 for that same exact white.

very nice job on the brakes, they look amazing. i'll be attempting that exact swap this winter. although my car has seen more mieage at 96,000, SHIIT son how the hell did you keep the mileage on yours down so low!?!!?

resonator... did it kill any performance? i honestly couldnt tell much of a difference in sound, i def. heard it being less loud though-which i like.

awesome car. keep up the amazing work.

Wow 6 grand for stock white paint job is crazy. I just finished painting mine last night. My total cost for painting it: $439.61 (just paint and materials). Like someone else mentioned above you need to find a friend in the business, or learn to spray so you can do it yourself.

Is that the neon rear brake setup??

Paint the rear fender and trunk black . Everytime I see your sig picture it looks like a cop car!

Nah it looks like stuff is coming along nicely for you, besides that paint issue. Good work on completing the brake swap. And good luck with your future endeavors with the car!

The 01Cav & Timler- My next door neighboor owns a body shop actually. But i'm the type of person if it comes out incorrect i will be on their case to fix it until its right. I'd rather not have a bad relation with my neighbor. The body shops around me haven't dealt with urethane body kits before and when i spoke with them they didn't to me have an honest idea of what the hell they were doing. They were the cheap quotes of like $3500-4K which is what i was told last year and i was ready for that. I am looking at getting my antenna shaved, door handles painted, mirrors, spoiler, body kit, door jams, remove windows, and address the corrosion on the bottom door seams. Its a lot of work and i pretty much told them i want it to look like it just came off the car lot. There is only one shop in town who I know for sure has dealt with a urethane kit before and quoted Chris's sunfire $5,000 for paint. I plan on going to him.

Mr. Kleindl - I was 16 when i got it installed and couldn't afford the $700 bill for power sunroof. However, maybe down the road i will swap it out for something with a motor. Its not a priority right now.

Thanks aaron--

kidduntradishunal - Yes is the neon conversion. I hope its well worth the while and nightmare its been. I'll find out tomorrow when i get her off the jack stands.

icemike89 - Its my catch container for bleeding the brakes. I wasn't drinking corona light. That was from one of my female friends when i had some ppl over. Its a sea bring convertible with stock headlights and with eyelids. The tail lights are a custom one off product the kid made on his own.

wizkiddrummer - Thanks man.

Zyaaaa- The paint is in excellent condition, but like i told the first two its a lot of taking care of the problem areas of the car with corrosion and me being nit picky and wanting a "show car" out of a 9 year old car. In the past 2 years the car has gone from 58,989 miles to present 59, 560 miles. Reason being i don't want to drive an unpainted car and with all the mods i have been doing on her keeps her off the road for me. She's in storage from sept - may while i am at college. Doesn't see rain or winter.

Shadowfire - Yes sir

it might be worth your while to drive over the boarder to canda to get your car painted man. that quate is retarded. you defently could get that work done here for $2000-3000 at most shops. just a heads up you might want to talk to some of the people in ontario they can defently give you some suggestions.

all show, stock go

^^^^^ yeah for sure. I was quoted $1500 to have my car repainted. The guys who gave you a quote for $6000 must be mental or something. Like 2tonecav said, with that extra work you'd probably be playing in the $2000-3000 range here.

I sorta like the black front end, so if I was you, I'd just paint the skirts and the rear end of the car white and just clear the front kit or whatever..
But thats how I'd do it. Whatever floats your cruiseship....

So those shops have never painted a factory kit before?
Anyone who says that, just run. Don't even bother talking to them again.

If you can get a reputable shop to do all that for $5K and guarantee it, I'd say do it. Also, are they going to disasseble and reassemble for you? There's some labor right there that you don't need to pay for. Trailer it there with all the parts being painted removed, then pick it up the same. You'd be surprised how much a shop will tack on for that at high labor rates. If you have a truck, or a buddy with a truck, you can rent a trailer for like $25-30.

Our stock body kits are ABS plastic, not urathane.

well if your gonna get all that done then you sould pay 6K if they have to start fixing rust it takes a lot of work. I think your car looks great and could look amazing! But you need to get just what needs paint done. Removing the glass and doing the door jams does it really need to be done?

Re: Couple updates and some bad news...
Tuesday, July 17, 2007 9:07 AM
for all the work you want done its really not that expensive. pulling the windows and fixing the rust are huge jobs. Shaving the handles and taking the extra time to do the door jams is also more work. I would just try to do it yourself. I did mine this year with omni paint for about 300. Theres a couple spots that I'm going to repaint, but hell I could repaint the car a hell of a lot of times for the ammount a shop charges.

I've never painted a car before let alone urethane body kit. I know how to paint small metal things like i did to the caliper brackets, i just don't feel confident enough doing all that myself. Even then, my car is going back into storage in another month i won't be able to enjoy her this year since i refuse to bring my car to college. Its going to give me more time to save up more and i think i am going to draw the line at $5K and will not spend a penny more. I even told these body shops i would re-install the kit after bring painted....

... Anyways....

Neon rear disc swap is titties!. The pedal still seems a little soft at some times then others its hard. I'm not leaking any fluids, so maybe i will look into those wilwood residual pressure valves for next summer. I will recommend to anyone this swap!
