new paint job
Tuesday, July 17, 2007 8:28 PM
So I decided to paint my car. Tell me what you guys think. I still need to wet sand the base coat. I'll be clearing real soon. I still need to paint my drift kit and put it back on

Does anyone have a solution for this side skirt. I was thinking of cutting that piece out

Which taillight should I go with? I'm thinking the Oem's. And yes I know I still need to paint the jams

it makes me think of a mid-90s paint style. and i say go with the stock tails. also, are you going to finish the C pillar on the drivers side?

either way, kudos for doing it yourself.

just a side note, I thnk your right side tires may be going the Wrong way, don't know the tire, but it does look directional, and going the wrong way.
I could be wrong

Not to be mean, but that is discusting. A simple two tone would have been a lot nicer, and p.s. dont sand the basecoat.

^^yes you can sand the base..as long as you do a mist over it again to even out the color..while your misting tho..maybe paint it all one color..as said it looks very "dated"

I'd just make the ripple a straight line and call it a day...kudos for painting it yourself.

ya i just checked my tires and three of them are going the wrong way. stupid shop put them on the wrong way. cause i havent taking them off since they have been put on. i can flip two of them. but ill have to take the other up to the tire shop. i cant believe i never noticed that.

ya i has thinking of just making the blue into a straight line.

OEM tails..A nice clean line would have been better, instead of the ripple...I've seen worse though

Just swap the two fronts with each other, and the right rear will be the only one you have to take to the shop.
I had the same thing happen to me, except it was shipped to me. I had to have one flipped locally.

As for the paint job, not liking it. I would do the straight line. It would probably look a little better if you brought the bottom of the line further forward, too. Maybe start at the bottom rear of the front wheel wells, and bring it back an more of a gradual angle.

However, do what you think looks good. It's your car, and you have to look at it every day, not us.

ok i never post when i comes to body work on the org..... but i figure i would give my 2 cents on this one, first off not really feeling the wavy 2 tone split, im more of a clean guy who like straight lines that run horizontally, the blue looks to be a nice color and teamed up with black is a nice combo, i do think if the line extended down to the bottom of the bumper up the top of the trunk i would look better but that color combo and design has already been done, i would personally go from the front tip of the fender back to the trunk but thats me, now for the sanding of base coat, you cant sand and clear base coat and get a nice finish, and you CANT sand a metallic color and clear over it, you always have to come back and do a pass, from the first pic your base coat looks extremely rough, either your not applying it wet enough or your using to fast of a reducer, not sure what product your spraying. for your side skirts looks like you could get away with cutting out that piece but you cant get away with that philips headed screw holding it on, i would suggest doing something about that, most likely you will never get double sided tape to keep it on so my suggestion would be to fiberglass a bolt on the back side and drill a hole in the fender, put a nut on the back side and be done with no worries or nasty screws, now here is my biggest problem with stuff i see on here when people are painting their cars is, not taking off everything you can, which is locks, window moldings, mirrors, etc. etc. tape lines are nasty and why half ass it when all that stuff is easy to pull off, and on the back window and top of the front window you need to get some lifting tape to reduce tape lines showing, and always remember taking your time results in a nicer product......

R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
