So I decided to pick up a little bit of a project for myself... It's a 01 sunfire gt that is fully loaded (sticker price was 29,800) the car was used as a secondary vehicle when the people went on trips (majority of the time it was pulled behind a motorhome) so the good things are... interior is mint and the vehicle is mechanically sound with 78,000km's on it.... the bad news is it needs some body work.... new front bumper, new fender, new door, rear quarter fixed and rear bumper painted... but here's some pictures of the project as it is now... I've replaced the fender, picking up a new front bumper this weekend....
forgot to add the other pictures...
and yes the sticker price is canadian.... I paid 4,900
That still seams a bit steap considering the body condition but looks like the makings of a sweat project, love the colour! Wonder if Josh has seen this.
the body isn't in that bad of shape really.. the horrible paint job the previous owner did makes it look a lot worse.... the passenger side is mint and the interior is mint everything is working.... checked out the local auto trader and 01 gt's with 20-30,000 more kms are going for 10-11,000
Where do you live? In BC 03's are going for 8ish with 03 z24s going for 10. You still got a pretty good deal then.
Edmonton....for some reason used cars seem to cost 3-4 grand more here in alberta...
I find it hard to beleive that an 01 Sunfire GT would have a price of $29,800...

maybe hard to believe but it's the cash selling price of the vehicle in canada... this vehicle is not missing a single option for it's year (from what i know atleast)

including a red fender.
$4,900 US?! you got ripped.
4900 canadian.... and it did not come with the red fender... it had matching fender but the line was not right so i replaced the fender and got the red one for free so its on there for now ... also had new rubber front and back.... dealer maintained every 5,000 kms... it may not look good now but give it sometime to get fixed up and it will look brand new
good project car... but you definitely got ripped off big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i would pay 4k for an 01 sunfire it would have to be in PERFECT condition, both exterior/interior/mechanically/etc....
just as a reference, you can pick up an 04 cavalier or sunfire in my area for about 5k. 05's for 6k.. 01's for 1500 or 2000
plan on getting rid of the side skirts?

He did not get ripped off.
Keep in mind this is in Canadian funds.
Keep in mind he is not living in the USA where there are so many used cars you can pick them up for next to nothing.
Check out the average prices for his area here:

Not everyone in Canada wants to drive down to florida to buy a car, it costs money to import it anyways, this is a decent price.
Good purchase.
Finally someone who knows the canadian market.... If i got ripped off for 4,900 then people who are buying 01,02 gt's that have less options then mine and 20-30,000 more kms for 10-11,000 are definitly getting the shaft... all you can get here for gt's for under 5,000 are 96-98's with 120,000+ km's or 99-00 with 160,000+ kms
I paid 8 grand for my 03 cavalier ( canadian fund, plus Quebec super tax) the only option its missing is the ac and cruise control ( if cavy's have them) and it had 37 000 km on it !
So 4900$ for a 01 full equiped and with 78000km on it isn't that bad !
around here I can find alot of 95-99 cavies going from 1000$ to 3 or 4000$. My buddy is selling is 95 and its a piece of @!#$ for 1 grand ! My 95 got sold for 2500$
not to be an ass but to point out the monetary portion of this...
i am canadian
bought my car in cananda (hamilton, ontario)
-its an 2003 cavalier
-all options (power locks, windows, steering, breaks, keyless entry, alarm,a.c, heat)->just no cruise
- alloy wheels (no hub caps)
-only 39 000km
and i paid exactly $5000 canadian...
yes $5000 for an 03 cav, mint condition, all options (but cruise), and only 39 000km's. and no nothing is wrong with it as i have had it for 6 months with many maintanance and inspections to make sure.
in alberta you can't even get a salvage rebuild for 5,000 for a 03 cav even with above 39,000 km's... anyways... a bit of an update... got sick of the red fender and due to our overly booming economy (and poor drivers) my car can't hit a real paint booth until the end of october.... so i decided to give painting a try... pull the fender off... prepped it and hit it with some paint from a good automotive paint shop (the place where the shop doing my work gets their paint)... anyways here is the end result... couldn't get it glossy glossy but it looks better then red...
haha.... i must say my car was a head turner with the red fender.. but i'm afraid it was because of the crazy difference in color haha
It's better than red and you didn't cover the rest of the car in overspray. Can't ask for much more than that seeing it's your first time and using non-professional equipment.

Ya i actually removed the fender to spray it.. i wasn't going to do a crap masking job...
