Need some help here. I just changed my valve cover gasket with an oil change. Now after the engine heats up I get a valve tapping at idle. I have an '02 cavalier with a 2.2. Thanks!!
sounds like ya droped a socket in the head when the valve cover was off.... all kidding aside, one thing has nothing to do with another,, just make sure you got 5 quarts of oil in it... if you do... then you might want to look into the top end, or just roll with it till she @!#$s the bed...
5 Quarts?? How come the manual says only 4 are needed?
Yes in a 2200. it is only a slight tapping after the engine has reached normal operating temp. At first start up it's ok.
i'm 99.9% pos your mistaken.... ya better take a look at it.. but even still, 1 qt low won't kill the motor, but it isn't great to do....
My lubricant catalog says 4.5 quarts with filter change !

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
Would it be safe to switch to 10w-30?
you can, but for some odd reason the engineers at gm thought your motor was best suited for 5w30... and granted, we all know engineers do stupid @!#$,, but i tend to think they know more than me,, so i fgo with what they say... now if your in extreem conditions, then your would want to adjust your viscosity rating acordingly
