i just got a 99 Z24 and now the car wont even start, i disconnected the battery for about 5 min to see if the ECU would read the new intake but after i push to ignite, nothing wont even go off :-(...im in a panic attack right now.....
i first moved aside the fuse box a bit to get the stock air box out, and later moved-but not unbolted-the battery again for space to get the stock air box out
then added the CAI, and connected everything to its porper area. :-(

nevermind, it was a loose connection with the wiring to the battery, but right now my car starts but my ETS light is on,plus my car's shifting harder now, is that normal?
thanks in advance

Glad it worked out...it really didn't make sense how an intake would effect your car not starting...I figured it was something with the battery cause even if you had no intake on it would start.
Anywho, glad you're alright now.

but hold on....my car's auto, and since i installed the CAI, the shifting is rough or hard whenever it changes gears, im worried my tranny might go bad :-(

If it's shifting faster than I don't think you should be worried about it. If it's shifting too slow, then you should be worried.

i had that problem with my auto shifting hard ... kinda like a jerk into gear rite ? my cause was a loose sensor ... i forget .. check all your sensors ...
Yeah man I had the same problem when I put my intake in.... It shifts hard between gears and it jerks when you go from park to drive right? It's your AIT sensor that is either damaged or loose. When ECU can't read the sensor, it puts the tranny into sorta a "safe mode" making it shift like that. Just check the sensor, unplug the battery for 20 min, and try again.

yea thats exactly right, i tried pulling the negative from my battery and let it alone for like 10 min, there ETS and check engine goes away but comes back on later. it even stalls the car if im driving-happened only once thus far. i plugged the IAT snuggly into the hole where the intake pipe is. any other ways? much appreciate on all of your expertise.
Well, dude in my case, I had pulled the Air sensor from the stock hose (well I had thought I did, but all I did was unplug it.) The real sensor was still in my stock hose and that's why my car went into safety mode. One suggestion is to take it to Autozone and have them scan it for free. The battery flash usually works, but sometimes you will need to get someone with a diagnostic tool to reflash ur ECU (I think Autozone has these but I don't know the cost. That should work..I know it works fine for my 2001 2.4l now. good luck man!

I too, had the auto shifting hard. ETS light on and off. Had to change the throttle position sensor. See my post on July 18th. Search under "4 speed automatic transmission". It gotta be one of these sensors, sending false info.

thanks guys i'll head over to autozone on monday, hopefully that'll clear up and fix this problem. but if the 'safety mode' is on, because of the throttle position sensor, causing the hard shifts, is there any danger to my tranny? i worry that in the long run my tranny would blow.
Hmm, my car jerks from park to drive, I thought it might be my shiftplus but maybe not.....
It doesn't jerk if I rev it to about 1500RPM
Think it's the sensor?
