I wanted an alarm with a pager, so I ended up with a Viper about a year and a half ago. It just so happened to have remote start, which was definately a plus. I haven't had a problem with it other than a loose connection, it wasn't the product's fault & it was fixed by free by the store that did the install. It has great range & it hasn't let me down. However, I don't think Viper makes just remote starts, but rather alarm/starter combos. I'd suggest that you go for a combo so that you have the security of an alarm as well, which is a smart thing to do. Mine was pretty pricy, but I got it for 12 months same-as-cash, so monthly payments were very affordable.

doesn't having a good alarm lower insurance a little bit? (btw: I go through Progressive)

Prestige and pursuit, made by audiovox make very good alarms. The knuckle head who installed the alarm from the other thread probably screwed something up.Back when i worked at an alarm shop,we never had problems with those alarms.Ive had more problems with both my clifford alarms thats it not even funny. From my trunk popping open by itself when driving and having the car not start at all.I put a pursuit alarm/remote start in my girlfriends car like 3 years ago,and it has had no problems at all.The only thing i had to do was change the batteries in the remote.I have a prestige APS-996A remote start alarm that im installing in my car right now.It has a pager and everything, check it out its pretty sweet. The clifford alarm i took out was an avantgaurd4.I gave it to my friend to get warrenteed,so im getting an avantgaurd5 because its discontinued.Im saving the avantgaurd5 for my new car.Thats one sick alarm. If you have the money,i suggest that one.

my brother got a viper starter, but when he got it installed they said that it would be a good idea for him to get the electric locks too. any reason for this? or were they just milkin him for more money?

It didn't lower my insurance since the passive theft stuff that was already on the car gave me a discount already. My insurance is Allstate.

Glad to know Viper does have just a starter I couldn't find one with the searching I had done.

because you're stupid to get an alarm with all that @!#$ and can't use have of it because you're car is all manual. Also remember if you have a manual tranny remote start is illegal just word to the wise. i don't know if you're car is auto or manny but just letting you know

its possible to have a remote start on a manual. i have several friends with it. they just have to remember to leave it out of gear. it is, however, illegal...if i remember correctly. i fail to see the point of having a remote start. unless you live in a cold area and let your car warm up inside and out before you get in, it seems like a waste. you save yourself like 3 seconds by hitting a button versus turning a key...

Illegal? How can they be illegal? There are alot of remote starts on the market that are designed for manual transmissions.

there not illegal around here. even if they where thats the dumbest law ive ever heard. its the owners responsabilty to set the parking brake when they exit the vehicle. if its set there is no problem with the starter.

im not doubting anyone there too many stupid laws out there.
