Okey dokey. Im not a newbie, but i am not sure about this one.
Isnt the Chevy Vortech 2.2 (L4) the same engine as the 2.2 2200 engine?
Yes.
And it is also spelled; "Vortec."

everything is the same, just different name?
Yes.
The only thing different is the intake/exhaust as it is set up for North/South configuration (RWD), in which it frees up a little more torque.

great so that big pyle of shyt in my old mans 2001 GMC is the same motor as my 2.2 in the sunfire. Why is it that the truck motor is worthless POS and has no power what so ever and then my car is like a v8 compaired to that thing?

You do know of drivetrain loss and parasitic loss right? running rwd adds parts to the equation, more weight, more rotational mass, the slower you go. And i can pretty much garuntee that your car weighs less then your truck.
so i did alittle searchin and i found that the "vortec" puts out around 120hp and 140 torque and that the head is aluminum 2-valve one. Is this the same as ours or not? and if not would the head swap make any difference?

What you know about Street Racing anyways? Only what Fast & Furious taught us....
SO EVERYTHING!
i compaired the truck to my car and my car is like a V8 conpaired to that thing, in other words, my car's fast and seems to have alot more power then the truck
Aren't most GM truck engine blocks built stronger than the passenger car equivalents? I know that was the case with the old 2.8 V6 used in the S-10/S-15 trucks.

Same unit and both has aluminum head & iron block. The reason the Vortec has a slight more power is because the exhaust and intake is a bit more free flowing.
S10 2.2L power rating. *Going by memory...
94-97 118HP/130TQ
98-04 120HP/140TQ

so would the head of the vortech fit on the 2200?
Yes, since both are the same engines. "Vortec" & "2200" are just marketing labels.

but theres no performance difference between them then. so it just another engine to get parts from...
so i wonder if you could bolt on the exhaust manifold from the Vortec truck motor on a 2200 for a nice torque increase (140 ft/lbs versus 120 ft/lbs) is quite a difference in a passenger car.
Manifold is the same. On the S10's exhaust, there are less bends which flows out better hence a minuscule increase in power.
Plain and simple people if you want more power look at aftermarket products for the 2200, mixing and matching with the truck's Vortec will do you no good.
Also on the 2.2L found in Js their power rating is.
1995-1997
120Hp
130Tq
1998-2002
115Hp
135Tq
