did something stupid need help!!! alarm system
Wednesday, July 12, 2006 6:51 PM
I was trying to put in an alarm system. I ran the power to the brain from the two red wires in the steering column, to the left of the steering wheel. All of my wiring must have been wrong, because nothing worked, but that is the least of my problems...When I tried to unhook it, the car wouldent run, unless the two red wires and the accesory wire were still hooked up to the brain...I was going to just deal with it, but I wanted to hide the wires better, when I did, I accidentally touched one of the red wires to some metal, and it blew the fuse to the brain. When I replaced that fuse nothing worked at all...Now my car wont run, and I need help...The only difference from this morning and tonight is that spark, what did I do, and how can I fix it?

check all your fuses. something must be blown. did you run the wire to the ignition switch?? it could have fried the wires. do you know how to test each fuse?

When you touched the red wire to the metal it short circuited whatever circuit that was.

You have at least a blown fuse someplace.

Take and look at all your fuses, or use a test light to find which one is blown.

What I would do is completely take all parts of the alarm out and put it back to stock. If you need to, solder wires back to stock, especially the big ones in the steering column.
Then look at every fuse and try to find ones that are blown. If you find some, replace them and try to start the car. If that doesn't work, come back here and we can help you some more.
I think you probably need to learn some more about how to wire up the alarm first and then when you have that done go back and wire it up.
The one main reason I know this... if you would have had the battery disconnected like you should have, you wouldn't have gotten the short circuit.
If you can get the car back running with it all stock, then we can start over and do it right.

What alarm are you using?? Does it have remote start?? If so, what passlock module are you using??

Thats where I would start.
