So ya I'm looking for my first car, and im basically working with $4,500.
Heres the deal. My best friend has an 89 mustang with a 5.0 HO engine in it, that runs a 14.6, and can chirp the tires through 3rd (lol, i find that amzing).
Any ways, I could get a car just like his, but i hate rust, and I want the car to be reliable and better than 11mpg on gas. So I've decided to go with a cavalier. My question is....What is the fastest year cavy that I can afford for under 4,500? and how much money am I going to have to put into the car to get high 13's-low 14's?
I know that obviously, a good way to get some extra power is to blow it with a turbo. So another question is, can i acheive those speeds by turbo only, and if so how many pounds would you say?

98-99 Z24, Will take anywhere from $600 to $3000 to put it into low 14's high 13's, depending on how you go about it.
You can absolutely do it with a turbo, depending on size you pick, anywhere between 6lbs and 10lbs of boost you'd need to get there.

But what about the 01-02 models? They look the coolest. and I want it to look good, cuz it 6 bux an hour I wont have money for a body kit and paint for a while. lol

top of the line nitrous kits can run $600. some cheaper depends on the brand
and body kits dont really make you go fast. they can actually slow you down

thats pimpin, so......whats the biggest shot i could go without having to worry about ne thing blowing up on me with it bone stock?
and....i dont have access to a garage, so im the summer (i live in michigan) my car will be getting crazy hot inside....will i have to worry about my nitrous bottle blowing up or something?
Get a 95-99 cavy z24 with the 2.4l for 2-3 grand, shop around you will find them really cheap in some places, supercharge it and your looking at 14s. Or spend 3-3.5 grand and then run a 75 wet shot, or a 50 shot if your scared of blowning the engine.
But IMHO if you buy a cavy with high km's, reliablity will come into question if you are looking to run boost or nitrous.
he means if the cav costs that much, then run the 75 cuz its cheaper. but if he got one for 2-3 do supercharger. you know, so either way he ends up with about the same amount of money into the car.

Ya, thats a good idea myles, and since i plan on putting a body kit on it anyways, the year shouldnt matter (as far as looks). How much HP r we looking to gain with a supercharger on z24?

and I see what your saying about getting them cheap. under 3 grand isnt bad at all. and to tell you the truth I actually like how that car looks better than the newer ones loll. O and if i do wanna put nitrous in it, what kinda milage do I not wanna go over? 100k?
I have an 04 Cavi. 5spd and it runs 14.8's with bolt ons and some minor port work done. With a set of cams and a tune I should be in the low 14's and beating your buddies 5.0 with my 2.2 and still getting over 40mpg!
