Newb Here.......Questions..
Thursday, December 14, 2006 9:42 PM
I'm really only a newb to just this site.

I've owned one Jbody in the past - It was a red 98 Sunfire GT, that I purchased new at the time.

I sold it about a year later because I was making a lot more money then and bought my red 97 Camaro Z28. Way more car.

My daily driver is, and always has been since I was 15, a 1986 VW Diesel Golf. It currently has 405,000 on the Odom.

It's still running and all.......but it creaks and groans - doesn't like to start in cold weather - and is generally uncomfortable to drive.
I've decided I deserve something better as a daily driver after 16 years of driving the VW.

My car of choice is a Cavalier Z24.

I'm leaning towards the 2000 - 2002 years, with the 2.4L.
The main reason I'm going for those years is the incredible low prices.

Although I have owned one - I don't actually know much about what year would be best to purchase.
Was there some subtle differences in engines or accesories that may have been better in certain years?

I appriciate any help provided.

hmm. perhaps you should ask this in the "third gen" forum. you may be abel to get quite a few different opinions from everybody.

LOL, yea you can count on the "J's" to keep low prices. LOL

i can't believe you have 405,000! is this K/m, or miles?

none of the less, welcome and hope to see ya around more on the boards. post some pix of your camaro and golf in "other cars" when you get a chance!!!!

What do you want out of the car? Just a daily driver? Or are do you think you are going to be dumping serious cash into the car?

As far as performance is concerned, 00-02 is the best years for the 2.4L (stronger manual trans, higher compression, no EGR, and support for a 2 bar map sensor if you think you will throw some boost at it).

Welcome to the .org steve.
