What is so great about the LD9 motor

LMAO!!
But your best bet is to do your own research.. I can tell you though that all of these motors have more potential then you would think..
TEX-A.S. JBoii
whats so special about hon-duh?...nothing
stock for stock, we can rape:
Mustang V6's (not that big a deal, but it's entertaining)
Tibby V6's (close with a 5 speed)
Grand Am V6's
With a set of cams, full exhaust, intake and tune we can rape:
like 90% of the asian market lol.
bottom line is, our motor has been spat on for years just cuz it's in a sunfire...but then when you think about it, sunfire's, cavalier's are NOT bad cars at all.
They aren't that cheap for throw-away cars either. considering brand new my 01 GT 5speed was $26, 000-ish fully loaded with sunroof and 16" alloys. Brand new 07/08 VW's start at $16, 000-ish. now THAT'S a grocery getter.
it's just a bad rep that started back with the sunbird and cavy's in the 89/90 transition and early Quad4 SOHC designs (those were junk)
BUT, it's a blessing to be underestimated. then it's juat all more fun when you walk the imports
well i have a 98 z24 and ive done very well against eclipses and all kinds of hondas my buddy with a rsx was surprised at how close the race was and i beat an automatic tsi with mine

It has some bad elements of it: waterpump and/or timing chain replacement, and oil pump. But overall good motor within its means. Have one in a bare bones base cavy or fire and be in the 15's, were can you say that about most "sport compact" cars? Only other thing is it is a motor to junkyard parts build with, there is just so many.

Couldn't agree more the original owner of my 02 GT paid 29,670 (cad) for my car in 01.... then again it's fully loaded (not missing a single option and is fully undercoated)
The best thing about the LD9? The fact that LG0 parts interchange.
1989 Z24 Convertible - Dust Covered
2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more
i will have 2 just say my fav part is when your around a bunch of honda owners and u pop your hood and they go damn thats a big 4 cylinder lmao o and raping mustangs and camaros that pisses them off and its funny as hell
13.1 @ 115
ima diehard LD9 fan, i will never own a j that doesnt have a 2.4... i like them because they have good low end grunt and get really good mileage(my '97 gets around 550kms per tank)... i also love the way they look i dunno im @!#$in weird and all but ill always stick with the LD9... afew ppl round here have proven how much potential these motors have...
----------
i who have nothing but the comfort of my sins...
i forgot 2 say i almost bought a 02 Z24 until i found out it had the eco in it, as soon as i popped the hood i closed it and walked away...

torque. for its class and its time, it had much more than most other cars in its class. thats why it does so well from stoplight to stoplight.
coming back in 2008...
now if we could only fix that short first gear
.....by reving to 9k lol
i agree GM did do something right if you look up the dyno of a LD9 the tourqe is constantly there through all gears unlike others where it drops off at certain gears it's a tough motor many ppl will bash on it sayin it's a P.O.S but hell every car has it's good and badd points there's no PERFECT CAR but i love that raping mustangs part . LMFAO it's soo true though
The way the mustang drive just shut up once you cross the line ahead of them is a pretty cool thing about the LD9.
LD9 FTW!!
^^^^^^ Dude... where you drunk when you yped that LOL .... I figured out what you meant though.... and yea... its funny when that happens....
Before I had my cams in..... I raced a 2k or so Mustang GT that was reving at me coming to a stop light.... I reved back and we where both laughing at eachother while doing it (him thinking he would beat me..... me knowing he wouldn't)... When we punched it..... we sat side by side the whole way... after wards he asked me (with a confused look on his face) "what do you have done to that thing?... I know Sunfires arn't that fast stock" .... I just laughed and asked him what he had done to his car because I thought I was going to outrun him (I could tell it wasnt stock)... All I had done to the car was a full exaust and a cool air intake at the time, but he thought I had a turbo or something..... funny as hell...
Although my Sunfire is an SE with a 2.4 in it (not a GT) wich didn't help his confusion any.
I love the LD9..... although I hate the fact I keep going through coils and the Izuzu tranny's in 3rd gens suck..
Yeah that was some terrible typing. Not sure what I was doing.
^^^ it happens to the best of us
What did you have on the car when you were racing that Gt?
^^^^ everything in my profile except for the secret cams (hadn't installed them yet..
The time in my sig is what the car was running back then.... I havn't been able to run the car since I've put the cams in because it's winter.
