i have a 98 sunfire with the 2.2 and the 3 speed auto and it wont shift out of 1st gear. does anybody know why other than the transmission being blown up.
Does it drive normally but just won't shift out of first when driving forward?
Does Park and reverse still work?
Is acceleration jerky and does the tranny clunk at all?
Is your Seedometer working?
Give us a little more info man...... that would help a lot...
have you tried manually shifting through the gears while driving? like going to 1, then 2, then D? were there any signs of tranny problems prior to this happening?

hows your tranny fluid?... low?... dirty?... we need some more info guy....
dont wanna post on top of his, but i got a 2000 cavalier with a 4 speed, and my car shifts fine when in drive, but it wont kick into overdrive, any answers. It shifts fine in all other gears, pulls out pretty quick.
are you sure its a 4 speed and not a 3 speed?
yea, i got 1,2,3, and drive.
i dont know about auto cavaliers, but i had an 89 irocz, the overdrive throwout cable (i beleive its called) had broke not allowing overdrive. if the cavi has it, that could be the problem. as far the original post, still waiting for additional info
