First off, Hello Everybody
Just bought a 1999 Z28 Cav with 2.4 (yes, my first small car - I'm a truck guy going broke on the high price of gas)
1. Would like to put a an oil pressure gauge in, as my cluster has only a tach and idiot lights. Anyone know where the sending unit should go? Do I need a dual purpose one (ie: does the existing wire feed the computer) Any recommended ones?
2. I'm having problems getting this steering wheel positioned for me. Anyone ever manage to adjust the wheel OUT (ie: towards the driver). Is there a way to do it? It's just not far enough out.
3. My Battery/Check Engine idiot lights do not light up when key turned (prior to engaging starter). They should. Thinking I've burned out lights there. I need to remove the dash to get at it. I did a brief search on the site on how to get this dash apart - really do NOT want to break the plastic because of stupidty.
BTW: I have a scanner - no codes, everything checks out (prior to purchase) - which is good.
4. Bloody seat belt idiot light is stuck ON. Thinking it's in the belt-receiver (driver's side). Any ideas?
Appreciate any help.
Regards
1. This thread should tell you most of what your looking for about the oil pressure sending unit:

2. I'm pretty sure there is no telescopic adjustment on the steering column so unfortunately your stuck with what you have.

There's not a whole lot to it except, like you said the plastic is not indestructible.
4. Unplug the connector underneath the driver's seat. I'm not sure if that would permanently keep the light on or off but it'd be worth a try. Otherwise, just put a piece of black tape over the light.
Guys,
Thanks for the help.
- Concerning the oil sending unit, if I unplug the old one, does it feed the computer - do I need to have both connected? From the link it seems that they've disconnected it completely.
- I'll mess with that connector. Not sure if the curcuit needs to be closed or open - will find out.
- Too bad on the steering wheel. This is the first car I've had an issue like this in a car.
The stock sending unit just grounds the wire to turn the idiot light on when there's no oil pressure. You can leave to connector ungrounded and light will stay off. It has nothing to do with the computer as far as i know... I've been running mine unplugged for a while with no problems.
Z/2
8 Cavalier??? Must be a very special model.
2. What about moving the seat forward?
4. I believe there should be a fuse for that. Check to see if it has been removed or is blown.
Its a Z/2
4 Cavalier. Z/2
8 is a model of the Camaro.
Thanks guys,
Ah yeah - just a typo on the Z24
As for moving the seat back/forward, of course, and yes - have tilt on the wheel.
I tend to have the seat back a bit (headroom/comfort), just can't seem to get the right combo for comfort.
Maybe pulling the steering wheel and going to a larger diameter one - but this thing has an airbag on it - probably will cause the airbag light to come on if I go with a non-airbag one.
Anyone switch steering wheels on their Cavalier?
