Well I had a 2005 Cavi base model that I was working on when I needed a motor swap, it was swapped for another 2.2L Ecotec. The shady guy who hooked it up would not cover the costs when the seals started leaking and white smoke was blowing out my tail pipe. So I ended up trading in my cavi for a ford explorer. Now I am back on the block looking to do another cavi. I was just wondering what would be the best years to do? I am wanting to know the best over all, for parts, money, etc.
Grab another 2003-2005 cav. Stock with the eco, you cant go wrong with that.

Thank you for your thoughts. My 05 Cavi was pretty fun. But I don't see alot of 03-05 Cavi's that are done up. I see alot of 95 and up Cavi's running around that are all done up.
Same thing around my area. I have only ever seen one other 03-05 modded cav in my area and it only has rims(maybe a intake).

Ive had 2 2200's a 95 and a 00, a 01 Z24, and a 03 LS (my current car), I loved them all, but would have to say go with the 03-05. I had intake, header, exhaust,tb spacer, both mounts, spark plugs, and a short shifter on my Z24, and my 03 with intake, exhaust and tuned by HPT would have destroyed it. Its my opinion, but i think the L61 responds better to mods then the LD9. Either way, both r bad a$$ and i beleive u would be happy with either of the 2
I had I/h/e upper lower mounts spec stage 2 clutch in my 99 z24 and i never lost to a eco. that was 5 years ago and I have owned 2 s13's and a z31 turbo since then. Pick up a 240 there cheap and have far more potential than any jbody.
He is asking what cavalier to get, not what car is better than a cavalier.
There are hundreds better.....
i know I just thought I'd steer him in the right direction.
go for a 2003-2005 cav or fire manual. i/h/e will get you to 15.0 or high 14s with good tires and mounts added
I say go with the one you think you want, any 2.2 (non eco) for gas-mileage, LD9 for stock power over the rest, Eco for plug and play parts, or go old-school, and get the 89-92 Z24 for a little bit of fun

thank you for all your input I have decided to go with an 03 and up.
no no no... get a 02 ls sport w/ the eco!

try finding a 02 4door z24 (im from canada) with an ecotec , and manual tranny for some fun!!!!
imo, go with the 03... first year they came with the bezel across the trunk and the only year with the silver bowtie across the bezel. plus it has the ecotec, which as stated before has alot of plug and play modifications. also depends on what kind of money you're looking at spending and what kinda deals are out there (which where the automotive industry is hurting its a buyers market for vehicles).....
just my 2 cents... but we're just making suggestions...

'88-94 Z (V6) or 03-05 anything (ecotec). I'm gen 2 biased, though.
