Jersey's In The House!!!
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 6:52 AM
Hey boys, im new to the site and my DD is a 96 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 w/ a 5spd... the car has been in the family and passed back and forth but always taken care of. started out in north jersey my aunt bought it new and kept it in the garage and drove it on the weekends then gave it to my mom to drive everyday. then my mom gave it back to my aunt to keep at her condo in florida. she felt it wasnt good for the car to sit down there as much as it did so she told me if i fly down there and drive it back, then its mine.. so i did its got 71k miles and its very clean.

the plans are tints, a 1.4" drop, CAI, exhaust, and maybe some all black wheels, and of course keep it cleeeean..

and here is the reason i got the Sunfire..

1990 454SS supercharged

thanx bro LOL "sunflower"... yea the truck gets less than 10mpg so I needed something else.. I just need to manly up the sunfire a bit cause it's two different worlds stepping out of that truck and getting into a girly red sunfire hahaha.. no offence to any other red ones out there.

AH I dont think anyone will mind. My cavi used to be red. There is alot you can do to your car to make it more manly.lol, I know what you mean with the milage on your truck. My Lincoln get around 18mpg 21 if I baby it. Right now the tranny is out of it so it gets really great milage. LOL

lol.. i dont really wanna go crazy but i def want it lower, and i need alittle more power cause ive got over 500 tq in the truck and when i get in the sunflower i feel like im standing still lol... first thing i need to do tho is find out y the low beams dont work.. daytime runners work and highs work but lows dont.. changed the bulbs and still nothing so im thinking its in the switch, but im not sure how involed that project is or how to take the switch out.

It's pretty simple cavaliers are notorious for these switches going bad, they actually get hung up either in low beam or high beam mine did it both ways over the 9 years I've owned this car. All yo do is take the column cover off from around the turn signal and wiper switches I think there are 3 or 4 7mm screws in the bottom then it snaps apartinside you will see a screw holding the turnsignal assembly down on top and another one on the face between the steering wheel and switch take them out un plug it go to the Junk Yard grab another they are about 60 bucks in the auto parts stores. try that. Also there are fuses for the headlamps check those first.

Also good luck with that power thing in a 2200...LOL Yank it out drop in a 3100 or 3400 v6 I got the same problems here plus an automatic. My car just looks fast. LOL. I think I'm going to do the 3800 S/C swap from a GTP Gran Prix a bit more work but from what i've seen well worth it. Search these forums and search agian. Anything you want to know is here, Some of these guys are J-body geniuses, just ask but search first chances are you'll find the same questions. Good luck.

thanx so much bro.. I checked the fuses(they're good), I gotta check that the harness isn't corroded(probably not (garage kept)) LOL, then check ground, but most likely it's the switch.. yea man I've been using the search button, it works great lol. found out how to disable the drl cause I hate em, and found some other cool things. this site is gonna come in handy cause I don't know to much about the j body or 4cyls either... I went straight from G bodys to fullsize GM trucks. thanx again tho, I'm going to follow ur instructions on removing the switch.

hahaha yea right the thing would be doing 8 second 1/4 miles lol j/p.... my truck is 4700 lbs and is in the 13s lmao i cant imagine that engine in the sunfire, but yea i figured the caddy V8 swap wasnt to far fetched.. i had a Fiero a few years back and guys do that swap all the time along with the 3800 s/c engine and others that u said.

sweet truck.

if you want more pep in the jbody, ditch the 2200 and swap in a 2.4 or sell it and get a Jbody with an ecotec in it

thanks man.. tru tru, but i dont think ill be putting that much money into it.. if i do some things to it and wind up wanting to do a swap down the road(only if this engine goes), i cant see anything less than a V8 going in it lol

ahh i finally got a new switch and installed it in a few mins... lights and everything works correctly now thank god!.. i called up advance auto and unbelievably to my surprise they had the switch in stock($74.xx w/tax) so i drove right down there to get it. now i can go tomorrow morning and get a nice new inspection sticker, then start hooking up the car.
