hi i new on here and also new to hooking up gauges. I have a 1996 pontiac sunfire and i got a battery gauge want to hook up but would like to hook it up to where when i turn headlights on then gauge light comes on and when i start the car the gauge will start working.. If anyone knows how or could help and advice would be nice thanks..

You want to tap the power from a switched circuit like the cruise control or turn signal circuit. Im not 100% sure how to do the illumination

go to the headlight harness, get your test light or multi meter out. start searching for the wire that lights up when you twist the switch, Now hook that into your illum part of your guage.


Next to make the guage work, go to your ignition harness, find a constant that when the key is on it's hot, now hook into this for your guage reading, if you hook to a constant source when the key is off the guage will continue to read, leaving a open circuit and draining your batt.

if you don't understand anything I just said take it to a shop.
