I think it would be a very close race, up to the drivers I think... Try taking out any unnecessary weight , spare tire, seats, etc... I think that's how close it would be, within .5 of a sec of each other. So a few pounds could make the difference of winning.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
So this is gonna be a drivers race?this is good to hear lol my friend is talking like his firebird will wipe the floor with my sunfire, the only other 3.8 I ever raced was a grand prix gt and we were about dead even.
No, his firebird will wipe its ass with your car...
2900lb 140 hp < 3200lb 200hp...
I used to have a 98 3.8 camaro, and I know for a fact that you will have no chance, My bet, he gets you by at least a car and a half at the stripe. Would bet ET to ET he will have you by a second and a half.

So I pretty much gotta invest some more money to beat the bird?
forced induction, tune
or
cams, pistons, headwork, blockwork, tune (maybe... it takes a lot of $$ to make an eco pass 200 WHP N/A)

Since when did a sunfire weight 2900? Closer to 2700 probably, depends on all his options and that but none weigh 2900. It both drivers have perfect runs, I still think the firebird would win but by less then .5

Maybe the OP can chime in and let us know how it went,
As for your "Probably" argument, 2003-2005 = 2678lbs curb... Thats empty... another 150-200 lbs? No problem...
His ass will still get dusted

the worst part is were talking about a 6cyl firebird. no winners either way
Exactly my point, they are nothing special, and I'm not saying the j body is better or anything. It's a small economy car w 140hp and the bird is a heavier car with a little more power. It should be close, tomorrow will be 2 weeks, let the time slips or video do the talking....

My 04 cav weighed in at 2680 without me. Not even a full tank. 14gal tank if its full will be adding weight, plus driver... yeah the firebird will win.
Also, dont bother taking seats out, you will only net 10lbs MAYBE by doing so. Its not worth the hassle to do it...
I was looking at curb weight vs curb weight, everyone keeps adding weight for a driver and fuel in the sunfire, is there not going to be a driver or fuel in the firebird?
To op, it's going to be a very close race, the bird should be a little faster but you shouldn't get smoked or anything. Weight reduction really doesn't do much but every .1 sec adds up... The pass seat weighs 28 lbs I thought, the rear seat, bottom and the back part weigh around 30, spare tire Jack, another 30? Almost 100lbs right there, if u have a sub, take it out too, run with less than 1/2 tank of fuel. If you are really motivate, you could take more out but those are easy to remove items, it's not going to make a night and day difference but might save .1 maybe .2 in the 1/4
Good luck and post results.

And remember that rotational mass is equal to well over double the equivalent stationary mass.
