I finally bought a sport bike :)
Thursday, March 18, 2010 9:03 PM
This might get moved but its not a "other car" so what ever happens.

I bough a 2003 Kawasaki ZX6R (636cc) with only 4k miles on it today. My supervisor let be burn a vacation day last minute to go get it so I owe him one.

Crappy pic of it on the trailer when I stopped at a rest area to check the straps.... I really need a new phone.

A much better pic that the seller posted when he sold it (not sure if its actually the same bike or not though since he doesnt own a minivan)

It needs tabs and an oil change but other then that its good to go. I cant wait until it gets nice out now.

It has a stopwatch and track timer built into the bike, I dont know if thats common or not. And supposedly has the biggest engine of the 600cc class sport bikes and is "capable" of a 10 second 1/4 mile.

DUDE

Sweet pic up that looks sexy. What do you mean by tabs? The pegs people put on so if it gets laid down it doesn't screw up the bike too much?

No matter what nice job and what an ideal time with spring just here and the wonderful weather. Glad it didn't take too long.

I accidentally the SHIFT LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig

Not trying to be rude but i am assuming u got a good deal considering u were LOOKINg for a good deal?

And absolutely amazing bike.. God i would kill to own that. lmfao.

And this means u have to start shaving prequently now or you may get beat up by dudes on harleys. lmfao.

I already shaved LOL Besides they have to catch me first

As for a deal? its a Silver 636 ninja with 4k miles, its kinda rare, I paid $4200 in cash. I saved my money last winter so I dont have a loan on it. I dont like owing money on things. I gotta transfer the title tomorrow (singed with no leans) and get the tabs.

And by tabs, I mean the sticker that goes on the license plate you have to buy every year. I do plan on getting some frame sliders and flush turn signals and crap for it though.

Its weird riding something that redlines at 15,500rpm, the highest I've got it was about 12 because when it hit that (in 1st gear) it was accelerating so damn fast that the front end started floating from the torque (front wheel coming off the ground) so I let off the throttle. If you run the thing WOT shifting at readline the power is so extreme that your brain just goes OMFG YOUR STRAPPED TO A MISSLE!, and its hard not to let off. I'll get used to it though. Just normal riding, the powerband is smooth and progressive enough that its not scary to ride.

When I was looking for one of these things I was picturing grinding pegs and doing wheelies, and although you can wheelie this thing at will, I honestly dont think that I'll push it any harder then I do with my old Suzuki (wich isnt much), now that I'm getting a feel of what its capable of., im learning a respect for it. Some of the other people I know with sport bikes are freaking crazy, and I care more about taking care of the bike then going through a 45mph turn at 130mph

One nice thing is that EVERYONE I know with a sport bike has a blue R6, and this one is different, you dont see many Kawies around here. PLus I can give them crap because I have a bigger engine and my insurance is the same.

This is really funny, you know how they shorten the make of a vehicle on the title? Well instead of saying Kawasaki in the title, it says KAWK LOL, I laughed my ass off when I saw that, the guy selling it didnt find it as amusing as I did though.

Here we go, same bike as the one I bought, but a different color.... I really dont think I have the balls to do this LOL

1. I said KEEP it shaved

2: That seems like a good deal

3: Are you @!#$ insane? You said u were too afraid to go 130 around a 45 mph turn because u value your BIKE, not your life... i mean really.. @!#$ the bike lmfao i would be afraid for my life

4: You type entirely too long of posts and i actually read this whole thing even though i didnt think i was going to

5: LOL @ KAWK and the whole situation

6: When you giving me your old bike? It would give us an excuse to actually meet lmfao hahaha

Ha ha ha, the old bike is well, getting old. Its a fun (slow) bike that handles well, but the engine needs torn apart and its gaskets replaced. The thing is worth less then a grand.

I was reading a review for when this bike was new and I think they where exaggerating LOL. They where saying the front end would float at 3/4 throttle, idk maybe it does and I just haven't noticed it the 2 times I've ridden it because its so stable.

Well, my life and the bike getting smashed at that speed kinda = the same thing. Apparently its easy to do, but Im still not going to.

And yes I like to type a lot.

I gotta go to bed now..

Nice bike! Is this your first sport bike? It sounds like it if you were surprised by floating the front tire off the ground in first. I've got an '07 CBR600RR. It does more that just float the tire in first

Have fun with it, and be careful. I hope you've got good gear to wear. That's definitely most important. Where are you located again? I know you are in the north central region. If you are close by, we should meet up for some riding!

Depends on who is doing the testing.

He had the times right. The MPH was off. I think it got confused with its top speed.

Seems the testing numbers you show for the slower mag test are for the 2007 version. In 2008, a more powerful version was introduced.

By the way...being off 1/2 second and 50 MPH in the quarter is not a small inaccuracy...just sayin, he didn't "have the times right" either.

Thank you for providing factual numbers

Enjoy the new toy, Weebel! Be CAREFUL. Take an MSF course too.

Nice pickup...I loved my 06 ZX6R. The track timer and stuff are standard fare on that bike. Flushmount signals, and rear signal eliminator kit shoudl be on your list of to do's

Plus a little resprocketing

Good luck and keep the rubber side down.

Steve

Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!

I knew someone would question the stats LOL I found a bunch of different numbers and just posted the most believable, there where faster times showing up for my bike then I posted too. Although, A Hyabusa really isnt any faster then a GSXR1000, they are over hyped a little bit.

Cursed Cav, I live near Owatonna, MN (but not actually in that town just really close), and yes this is my first Sport bike, but not the first one I've ridden. I meant that the front end doesnt come up as easy as people say it does, although I have yet to get it over 12 grand. I rolled on full throttle from 3 to 11 ish grand on the tach and the front tire stays pretty much planted, although Im not used to it enough to really tell yet though. I think whats screwing with me is that my ears are telling me to shift at where my Suzuki redlines instead (9.5 rather then 15.5).

GTmatters, My old suzuki is still set up in a way that makes you want to ride it faster then you should LOL. (i've done a bit to it) but an older 550 is a pretty good starter bike.

I'll admit these things are fast as hell, but down low the power is easily manageable, IDK if its just this bike or not, but I really dont understand how people wreck these things so easy, I've seen people light the tire up on an R6 and down it in a parking lot, those people just must not know how to ride at all, until now I thought it was just the bike having too much power, but its not.

Somehow I missed that, I plan on getting frame sliders and flush mount turn signals in case it tips over in the driveway or some crap. It already has a high mount license plate and yoshimora (probably spelled wrong) slip on muffler.

Lol well i want a motorcycle to drive back and forth to work, colleg, and home. I may save... i am thinking if i save of either getting a small project truck, older cheap street bike, or something of the sort. I have to pay off my credit card and see how my hours are first.

Just for reference, my suzuki gets a little over 45MPG if I dont get on it.

I have no clue what this ZX6R gets for mileage yet but I think I read 37mpg somewhere.

An older smaller displacement jap cruiser (that you can get for under a grand most times) gets good mileage, the tabs are $13 a year, and liability insurance runs something like $15 a month. (for me anyway) (insurance on bikes in most states is paid once a year though)

The insurance on the bike I just bought is about $800 a year for full coverage and some insurance companies wont even cover sport bikes.

Dont want a sport bike, just something to cruize that gets better mileage than the fire and that is still fun to drive. haha.
