I like both of these and i want the Camaro SS but every magazine, blog, and you tube test drive review praises the V6 over the SS. But if i'm not going to get the the V8 SS it feels like a compromise. After all that's what a Camaro is all about, V8 snarl and attitude. But also both Camaros are getting raked over the coals for being great at straight line acceleration, but horrid, God-awful at turning. I like my speed AND performance together.
So since i'm already making a compromise with the V6 Camaro 2LT, I'm thinking why not a Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Track? It's cheaper, more agile, has nearly the same HP numbers, great build quality, awesome warranty. Really the only thing it lacks compared to the Camaro is the bad ass looks. I'm really split here, and have no bias toward one or the other.
I'm not looking to have the JBO pick my next car, but thinking maybe with some more knowledge from some other people i can get a clearer picture of what is truly the better choice.

I don't know if you've considered the Mustang, but that is one hell of a car. I came out from the V6 and V8 in complete amazement. The only thing I wanted was the V8 to sound louder, V6 had the perfect loudness.
Personally I think the Genesis is a stellar car, nothing to gripe about. I would wait until the GDI comes into play.

Don't think for a second that the Camaro can not "handle." Sure it feels heavier than the Mustang, but the car has a well controlled sway, lateral grip is above average, what's more where the Mustang is almost maxed out, the Camaro is just entering... plenty of room for aftermarket parts to make it even better.
Also the braking is roadcourse worthy, more than 20 high speed hard stops and the Brembos barely get faded.
Here's an advice, wait a bit until the 2012 M/Y Camaro where it is slated to get a "upgraded" interior, decide which you like more from there, because you may regret it later.

I personally think that the Genesis looks ugly because it's badged by Hyundai. Have you thought about looking into the cadillac cts? 4 door, cheap insurance or even the ford sho.
dan
Yeah i tried the Mustang GT, it was a 2008 and i was seriously disappointed.
The issue was the week before i drove the mustang i rented the Corvette ZHZ from hertz and after driving that for a week the mustang felt like a base model Cobalt. It just really didn't move me like i expected a V8 should. At least with the Camaro SS i know what to expect...it's the Vette motor. And my uncle has a CTS so i know how that motor will be like in the LT2. The problem is no dealer will let me drive ANY of these cars (Camaro & Genesis) they claim they are only for serious buyers to drive only. The Hyundai issue is only more serious since I'm in Detroit and every Hyundai dealer around here only has like 1 to 2 genesis's at any given time. They are REALLY not willing to let people rack up miles on those.

Have you driven the Camaro, its not lacking on handling. I'm not buying this whole bit about build quality being that great in a hyndai.

my friend just bought the new camaro SS auto black with orange stripe's. is is such a nice car he traded in his 04 acura TL in for it. i test drove the 2.0t genesis and im not sold on it. the car was very very small inside the power was not all that great getting on the highway it did okay but my g5 gt feels stronger im far from stock though. im still not sold on
Hyundai i just had a 09 accent for a rental and what a garbage car i brought it back to get something else and my friends parents just bought the new sonata and 4 days after getting it they had to take it in because the alarm get going off for no reason.

You do realize EPA rates your g5: Passenger Volume is at 83 cu-ft. While the Genesis: Passenger Volume is at 89 cu-ft.

^^^ That doesnt mean it feels big.
Jooky you should come down to fort wayne and hang with me to test drive a Genesis. Our dealership has like 6-9 of them. And they let people take them out all the time. It would be fun haha. Plus I would like to test drive them as well.

i have driven the new mustang, camaro, and genesis in both v6 and v8 for the ford and chevy and the 4cyl and v6 genesis. in my personal opinion i would chose the genesis for shear comfort over the others. the mustang disappointed me compared to the camaro and genesis. the camaro v8 was really something to drive but the roofline was way to low and made visibility a little hard through the front and rear windows which was the only downside for me. the genesis was an excellent car granted its a bit slower compared to the v8/v6 camaro but man does it make up for it in other places. i say get the genesis but hey nothing speaks louder then a test drive so just go in and throw a fit until they let you drive one haha. good luck shopping man
I don't find the Camaro to be all the hype everyone makes it to be. The fully loaded version is nice, but that's about it. It's just another bland and non-exciting GM product.
The new Mustangs (and anything Ford has come out with recently) have caught my attention, and I'm not a Ford guy.
I'd say go with the V6 Track GC. I almost bought one actually....

You know what is interesting about what you said? It's EXACTLY what every review of the Camaro says. print, video, web reviews said GM nailed cool styling but to drive it is somewhat uninteresting. as a matter of fact the Camaro came in 3rd out 4 places in a recent Motor Trend comparo, they even said looks aside the car really wasn't very exciting. they actually gave 1st place to the GC 3.8. So there it is again. A co-worker of mine said if what i really liked was the Corvette, and i'm already looking at $30,000+ cars why not a few year old Corvette and just get what i like. Problem is i'd like to have a warranty, and the peace of mind that any abuse or lack thereof was done by me not someone else.

I agree with rodimus. Go drive a camaro SS if that was your original target. It is heavy, but it corners quite nicely. People are caught off guard by how well it rides. It doesn't "float", but it soaks up bumps and transitions very nicely and can control it's fat ass with ease
Wish i could offer insights on the genesis and/or mustang but i haven't driven them yet. The new v6 mustang is quite impressive if your in the V6 ponycar market.
slick02eco wrote:^^^ That doesnt mean it feels big.
To say "feel" is now being subjective; that term is equivalent to using the "butt dyno" to measure performance.
Also none of these magazines I've seen (I may be missing here some) has measured the "handling" because there's really isn't a true measure.
And the issue on "handling," Camaro suffers in the #s because of the weight, it does not mean the car is not tossable or " it trips over its feet." Instead of using the word handling, we should focus on the control of the car. For being in porky, it does not do that bad.
Because of where I work, I get to see products before they come to the public and companies set up these spectacular scenarios so the media can really ring out the potential of the products. With this being said, what I see, you'll not see on a less than 5 mile dealer test drive. My best advice is look around your area and see if you can rent any of these cars, take it to a empty location and go crazy with it. See how tossable the car is, also leave your prejudice at your bathroom where you read your magazines and make your own judgement. Out of the box, in terms of control, I found the the Mustang and Genesis better than the Camaro, but the Camaro was not far behind at all. In fact for being heavier GM did not do to bad for its heft. I do see more potential in the Camaro than the Mustang when after market pieces are put in, just because of the architecture.
IMO overall:
1. Mustang 95%
2. Genesis 94%
3. Camaro 90%<< That's mostly due to the styling, I'll wait with what happens in 2012 MY.

I'll say Pontiac G8. I know it's not what you're looking for, but it has a vette V8, leather and all the bells and whistles for around the $30,000 mark.
Just a thought.
As cool as the G8 is, I'm not sure I'd want to buy a Pontiac right now, unless you were a diehard Pontiac fan.
If you really wanted a Vette, then I say you go test some. If you need to splurge a little and risk your warranty (calculate what it'll cost you to diy if possible), then go for what you really want. If not, a nice new shiny GC is a nice car.....

Like Viper said, I'm not a fan of Ford at all. But that new SHO looks to be interesting also......I'm feeling a test drive is in order...
Sorry guys I DO NOT want a Taurus or CTS. Both are awesome cars, but not what i want. And besides you can't get a Taurus SHO or CTS for the same price as the Camaro and GC. They are way out of my price range...and just not the type of car i'm looking for.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I know exactly what car i want. I want either the Camaro or GC 3.8 Track. The Mustang i will look at but I narrowed it down to those 2 only as of right now. I just was looking for some more insight into those 2 exact models not suggestions on what else is out there.

All I'm saying is, I'm buying my Camaro in Jan. 2012.
If I was going to buy a new car now. It would be a 2011 V8 Stang or Genesis Coupe with the track pack.
PRND321 Till I DIE
Old Motor: 160whp & 152ft/lbs, 1/4 Mile 15.4 @88.2
M45 + LD9 + 4T40-E, GO GO GO
The Gen Coupes prices are going up next year, at least thats what's been heard from Hyundai of America through the grape vine.
If you want the 3.8 track 6 you better get it while its cheap with the 32k price tag
2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Premium Edition
2.0 Turbo 5-Speed Automatic
Tsukuba Red
I'm not sure how anyone can justify paying 32k for a Tiberon
