I have the opprotunity to pick up a 2001 Dodge Dakota Reg Cab Truck for $2,250.
Stats:
2001 Reg Cab short bed truck
93,000 miles
3.9L V6
Automatic
Power windows - Driver side doesnt work
No rust
Normal dings and scratches
What should I look out for on these trucks? I will try to get up pictures.
What are the common problems for these trucks?
Thanks again!

When in doubt, I would go to the dealership and have them run a scan on the computer system so you can find out the highest it's been reved up, fastest the car has gone, just stuff like that. I'm sure you will be fine.

Ball joints both upper and lower for sure. Auto trans sometimes don't hold up very well. At 100k be prepared to do a timing chain, tensioner, waterpump, waterpump bypass hose, thermostat. Also check to see if the fan clutch is loose. Rust on the bottom lip on the inside of the tailgate, at the front edge of the front fenders by the sidemarker lights. over all my 98 dakota sport has held up pretty good, only had to replace the balljoints, muffler, and a seized front brake caliper ( did both and new pads and rotors ), basic tune ups. Check out www.dakota-durango.com lots of good info there.
My brother had an 01 sport and he had trans issues and his overhead display would randomly stop working. Otherwise check out dakota-durango.net as they would be able to help you out better.
Thanks for the info! I appreciate all the help and the links.

Dakota-durango.com is the jbo of Dakotas.I had an older one that I beat the piss out of and it was still going when I sold it.
As long as you take care of it you will be fine.
What are your plans/uses for it?
definitely check out the front end. most of the ones i have worked on needed ball joints. usually all 4 needed. never really heard to much about tranny problems.
Auto tranny's are junk around the 75,000-100,000 mile mark however can be rebuilt with better quality parts. V6 engines are quite reliable though.
