LGO in a 99 LD9 Cav
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 8:24 AM
I found a nice crate 94 LGO motor for cheap, and it has 0 miles on it. I have been working on getting a new LD9 for quite some time, but this motor is HALF the price of a rebuild or ld9 crate motor.

How hard would it be to get it to run on the 99 OBDII ECU....with HPTuners
I have a nice shop that is VERY WELL versed in HPTuners, and they believe they can get a good tune if I can get all the sensors working, and get everything to fit together.

I believe the cam sensor...will not work....which is fine since it will run in batch fire mode Correct?
Knock sensor...can work with a drill and tap.
Other sensors.....any problem?
I would be planing on not running power steering. Just loop the lines at the rack.

How in the hell would I get a 4T40E to bolt to the LGO. Bell housing adapter spacer? I rather not switch to a manual.

I read over a few of the 95Z to LGO swaps, but I beleive that is a lot easier that what I'm asking.

Team Green Any input? Besides buying your 96Z.

Seems like you have the jist of things. Any 4t40e that will bolt to a LD9 will bolt to an LGO. You might wanna get a stall converter though. Just make sure you get it tuned before you stomp it because the HO will lean out up top with the stock LD9 tune. Also I believe the LGO has larger injectors, i think 310cc, so you might want to look into that also.

I have a Yank Stall converter.
If the LGO will bolt to the 4T40E that makes me feel...a WHOLE lot better. Will the flex plate bolt up?
So I guess I would also need some bigger high impedance injectors. since my 99 has skinny high impedance injectors.

I would think you can take the flexplate from your 2.4 and use that, people use the beretta flywheel on the 2.4s for the NVG swap. I bought a set of injectors in the classifieds that were from the m45 supercharger kit when i did my 086 swap and they work great.

mike... ive a set of the gm sc injectors. pm me if interested.

and yes... im pretty sure the flexplate will bolt up to the LG0.

I believe I can see the future... as I repeat the same routine....

Umm..

you HAD to ask THAT question HEY?

well, fine.. ill let you all in why i posted my "other" question in this forum...

My W41 (LG0 {that's a ZERO, not a "O") with bigger cams) and NVG are going in to a 99 here when the weather gets warmer.

The 4T40E will work on this block as it dose with any other Quad-4\Twin Cam.

Run power searing, the only thing you will need to "mod" is you have to bend the high pressure hose a little.

This "MOD" is Easy, its really plug and play easy. it will take you FAR longer to get your shift points and TIMING\Fuel tuned then any thing else in the swap.

Don't worry, it may look hard, but if it takes you more then 2 days with only hand tools and no help, your doing something wrong.

You will want to run at least 310CC injectors, CPS code, good by.

and this will make you smile..

rev lim...

7600-7800. (but shift around 7500)

Have fun holding them gears!

IF I were you, and I'm not, i would look around for some cams, head, and 90-92 water neck with 160* T-stat.

Chris thanks.
90-92 Water neck from a LG0 or just normal quad?
I was kind off guessing redline around 7500.

I am thinking about doing a similar swap into my 99, and I think everyone has you on the right path. The only thing I don't see mentioned is you need an HO exhaust manifold, or LO 4-2-1 manifold and downpipe since noone makes a header. If you are close to Ron from the Quad forums, he will make a header for the swap. He just needs the car for a short time
