I'm an idiot and bought a BMX kit off ebay. Front and side fit fine, and are on. Rear, not even close. Stuck out about an inch on each side. So I'm currently in a search for a new rear bumper. I tried ECC, but they don't do the FRP kits any more, and I'm waiting for them to respond on thier return policy. I may just take the refund. I see Gravana sells it for a decent price too. Not too sure on thier fitting though. I can't seem to find anyone who sells just the rear in Urethane.
I was also thinking that I could just stow it in the trunk when I take my car to the body shop for prep and paint, and let them take care of it. I assume they could make it fit with some modification.
I don't know what the hell to do. I was really hoping for that predrilled frp kit.....that was my savior.
.
Also, anyone want to buy a rear bumper that doesn't fit?

Also I can't install my exhaust until I get the new bumper on. I need to make sure the guys at the muff shop get the tip through the hole so i don't burn up my investment.

i say take it to a body shop and have them see if they can make it fit on there without making it look like crap. but dont paint it just yet. drive with it unpainted for a few weeks or so to see if the fitment stays. that way you dont waste money on painted a bumper you are going to replace.
i'm baaaaack!!
How much will that cost do you think? If I could just buy a new bumper for less I'd rather do that.

the price depends on were you live the shop and hwo well you want it to look.
okay but my question is would it GENERALLY cost less to just buy a new one. Say $500 repair as opposed to $175+ shipping.

my friend had the same prob with his cavy, he ended up knocking of the "rubber things" or whatever he called them.. I didn't see them at all, but it fits now. He thought his was too wide too. but I know that he took something off the rear to make it fit... an he did it himself witch was suprizing because he knows @!#$ about cars.

I'm sure it doesn't fit. Your friend may have been talking about the foam that's on the bumper.

Yeah he was talking about the foam/plasitic piece on the rear. I know some kits require you to remove that piece. And generally that is the problem. Unless you already have it removed then I would go with your conclusion that it don't fit.

i,ve seen this kit on Hundreds of Cavaliers. ANd all the back bumpers sticks out like a park bench. So i hope you dont confuse the look of the rear bumper and assume theres something wrong.
However i do know the EBAY kits fit like sheet. So its honestly hard to say without looking at it. But the first thing i would do is take it to the body shop and have them give you a written estimate.
I would just suggest getting the body shop to put it on because even if you get a new one. There is no garentee it will be problem free. And almost every single fiberglass body kit out there needs work to get put on.
So save the $175 price of a new rear and just put that towards install
yeah what do you mean by sticking out 1" on each side.. was it sagging down? or was each side of the bumper sticking out 1" horizontaly? because if it was horizontaly sticking out, thats pretty much normal all you do is heat up the area with a heatgun and gently push it, let it cool down and it should stay that way. i would try it yourself first, dont be afraid to push the fiberglass its stronger then you think.

Import fighter: Yes it does stick out in the back......that's not the problem i'm having. I like the look actually.
Whiteboy. heres a quick illustration i did. View is from above
It sticks out like a Y. Do you think the heat gun technique will work.....you aren't the first person who's tod me about it.

bah...no edit buttons. What about a hair dryer, will that get it warmed up enough.
02 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
i doubt a hair drier would get hot enough
Just to show you guys how much bending would need to be done, i took some measurements. The kit bumper, from fender to fender, measures 67". from what I can get out of the stock bumper, it's not even at 60". so Is it possible that a body shop can take care of this for less than $200?
02 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
we can do it for less then $200, people brought us worse fitting kits then that, about a foot on each side.. lol
hairdryer might work if you get a whole area warmed up but i doubt it will very good and quick. Try bolting one side first and then heat up the other area .. this might work but gotta make sure it looks good that way.
