Hey guys,
I wanna get rid of the back piece on my trunk (huge long red defflector). I was thinking maybe putting vinyl (tint) across it and leave the lil circles as my tail lights OR should i use paint. I'm thinking if i paint the red deflector it would be the best way to do it but i heard u can also use vinyl? I'm hoping the few that did it can help me out on what proper way to do it. So Paint or Vinyl and how much am i looking at to get it done. Thank you
Here's some examples what im looking for.
Thanks

if you paint it that would look good. would you take off the chevy emblem? is that possible?
stick on or drilled. if drilled ah nuts!
imo..im with jason..just get it painted
Chad
Its just side molding on a car....It comes right off ^^
"J-body.org is just like a oil change, You have to watch every thread you see!"
Thanks A+ & mrbrown. Your right i think paint would be the way to go.

Vinyl would be a pain in the ass. Just paint it once and its done.

any prepping involved in painting ths thing? (not trying to threadjack or anything)
damn i always hated the tail lights on the new cavs but those look sweet painted
yep i would deff paint it! or remove it. if your thinking about removing it later you should just wait. the best would be to have it painted with automotive paint but you could do it with rattle cans just as easy.
mask everything you dont want painted
sand with something like 400 grit so its not to rough but the primer will still stick
prime and paint and then clear
i would deff color match it to your car unless you wanted to match your wheels a little, mabye put a blue ring around the out side of the lights
They should have come color matched from the factory like that....

^^ i agree thats the reason i went with an 04 fire, instead of a cav
oh wow, thats really sweet looking. I can imagine it would look even better without the emblem...
i wonder if krylon fusion with lots of clearcoat would be up to the job...
Well well well. This is my FAVORITE topic
When i first thought about this idea, I had a friend do a PAINT example on the PC to see how it would look. Well here are before and after pictures of when I had mine done. Obviously when I saw it on PAINT on the PC i just couldn't say no to it! Btw, I definately recommend adding the bowtie on the trunk (make sure you take it off when you paint the whole red reflector--I had my friend do it to mine, he knows how to paint n all that). Make sure you paint it the color of your tail light too cuz IMO it looks better that way, but it's your car, do what you want. Btw, my car is a 2003, my friend had an 04 cavy at his shop that was busted, so he painted the 04 one so that I didn't have to have mine off and not have my car be driveable so it worked well that way. Go to a junk yard to see if you can take a smaller 04 bowtie off. Without one, itll make the back with a HUGE hole. It cost me $125 to do. I don't care, cuz Id do a HALF ASS job trying to do it myself. I can wax over it (after a month or so--something like that) without having to worry about trying to get wax on vinyl--unless wax doesnt bother the vinyl, but I don't know that. But yes definately paint it! You will be satisfied! My car is!

^^^Btw, I have no clue what to do with paint, im sure he did it the real professional way so it goes along with the match of the cars color. Paint lasts longer. Hail Paint! lol.
^^^^ i used the picture with everything shaved off of it in a different post... hope you dont mind.
dont copy off of me no ok what i did was like the black car on the first pic but i painted the red out line on the reverse lights and i shaved my key hole their should be pics of my ca on the chicago meet pics when they are posted i love my rare.
i really like the look of that yellow car...that's hot. yellow = the colour i wish i had.
The only thing I could think of improving on it would be the white backup light to red, and then put the backup lights on the side of the license plates, like the corvette. Then you'd have a mini-corvette coupe.

^^^Is there a way that someone could do a chop to see how that would look? An visual ideaR would be sweet. Thanks.
BTW, thanks for the comments.
I see what i can do about that photoshop, and the post i made is in this forum, its called "to do, or not to do"
Here ya go, i dont know how the reverse lights are on the vettes, if someone can post a pic, i can try and chop it onto this picture. Heres what it would look like with the reverse lights being red tho.

Thats actually a pretty good idea, i think i will do that maybe get someone to chop that for me and thanks for all the the help you guys are giving me i really appreciate it. Thanks

^^^ i really like that, with the red instead of the clear, sweeeet
~*Gilles*~
im gonna search on google to see if i can find some vette reverse lights. If i do then i post a what it would look like later.
If your gonna do the reverse lights like i chopped on that picture, then i would mix up a candy red color and spray it on the inside of the light. I think you would get a better match with the rest of the lights like that, and light will still shine through also. I dont see being able to match it with stained glass paint.
