I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to take off the plastic red thing on my trunk and can I paint it???? and if I can how do I go about doing that???
it pretty simple, when you lift open your trunk..
there are like 7-10 holes that have like 7mm or 8mm socket bits that you can lossen
and then it will come off the thrunk.
same concept for the lights..
make sure that you prep the area you are painting cause you have horrible results

What paint should I use??? any idea on a color of just go with black?? what kind of sand paper also??? or can i just take the huge plastic thing off and leave it off?
few options you have...
1. take it off and paint it.
2. take it off and leave it off. will have to fill in all the holes though.
3. take it off and replace it with the carbon fiber piece from rksport
4. take the whole trunk off and replace it with a 95-02 trunk.

Hey guys,
Total newbie here. Just curious, nobody ever responded about what kind of paint is recommended. I've also seen in other threads that people recommended a clear coat. Is that to make it shiny like the factory paint? I want to match the black factory paint of my car, and I would like to find some way of keeping it from fading.
Sorry if I sound stupid but I've never modded a car before and want to do some things to my Cavy.
Another option I'm considering is putting in clear tail light covers, but I've been looking everywhere for a clear replacement for the reflector that would match the taillights. BoltZ22 mentioned a part from rksport, but I can't find anything about it, and the rksport website doesn't seem to work.
(If I should have posted this as a new topic rather than a reply, please inform me!)
Thank you,
Pyxis
Nice ride tanya!!! I'm lookin at gettin rid of that ugly red piece across the back as well, and i've had an up close look at some cars with that piece painted, and it wasn't too pleasant!!!! They probably just did it the cheapest way possible!!! Anyway i'm set on replacing the whole trunk!!!
P.S. Post some more pics of your car!!!!!!!!!!

When i had my body kit put on i had the guy mask off the taillight bezel leaving just the three circles where the lights and reverse lights are slightly elevated and he painted the rest of the bezel the same color as my car and believe me its the way to go...The only thing important is that you make sure you use plastic primer and when they clear coat it make sure the clear all of it includeing the lighted areas where they get masked off otherwise it has a great chance to chip..It might sound confusing but ill try to get a pic of mine on here asap for ya.

^^^ Personally for painting an area as large as the trunk I wouldn't recomend using the Wal Mart paint (spray can) Simply because its gunna look all uneven and it will contrast brutally with the stock paint job. The its pretyt much no way u can acheive the same look as if u use a air compression operated brush. Your best bet is to take it to the body shop pay 50-100 dollars to get it painted properly the first time instead of having to redo the job. As for the clear reflector piece, it currently doesn't exist on the markey, the only substitution for the trunk reflector is the RK SPORT carbon fiber trunk bezel, its pretty pricy too seeing as it is carbon fiber and all.
Anyways cavievostyle ur best bet is to get it professionally painted, or get a 00-02 trunk from the juink yard, either way it will work out.
To do it right I would get the RK Sport Carbon piece and the proper tail lights to go with it.
I found the carbon fiber piece, and it runs for about $180.00, which is pretty ridiculous.
heres a pic of mine. i did em in black, but soon they will be gone when i do my tail conversion
ps- dont mind the ugly ass exhaust. that was back in the day. long gone, thank god, it was hideous

This is what it will look like if you do it the color of your car, although after seeing that other pic, I'm thinking I like the black look...dammit
Do NOT spray paint the car - why would you do that? Take it to a body shop and have it done right, for God's sake.

I like the big red peice, except that it looks bad next to my orange car. So someone suggested VHT night shades, some tinting spray, which would make it look like I want it too, except I can't find away to get it to canada, but I'm pretty sure it's not legal, so I haven't been working on it too much.
mines pretty similar to yours blue cav.......except on my reverse lights i painted over all the red
