any decent paint job is gonna run you like 1500 for a full color change. its up to you if you think its worth the money or not

x2

if you dont wanna spend that much, at least do it the right way, with a real paint gun/compressor, real automotive paint. search in exterior and you should find the proper procedure for painting a car. its not gonna look as nice as it would if you send it to a shop, but it wont look half as bad as it would with spray paint.

Friends dont let friends spray paint there cars.. Yea acidburn is right if you do that and then take it to a body shop to get fixed the right way they will charge you even more then the normal price of the paint job since its going to take them a good while to get the spray paint off.

No, even if you ARE doing body work and you need to primer stuff, NEVER, EVER EVER use a rattle can. Car paint will not spread over rattle can paint, even primer. You cannot use spray paints and automotive paints together, its water and oil.

right, the only thing you should use a spray can for is if you wanna paint your interior and even then i dont recommend it. spray bombing something is just asking for trouble. wheater its primer or paint, it shouldnt be done

One hting a lot of people dont think about is sand it down yourself before you send it to the shop. saves you money and makes it cheaper. If i get a color change im going to sand it all down for them so they dont have to do it. just make sure you dont go too deep.

Re: Spray painting a car

i was told 5000 for a same color paint job. i just about crapped my pants. learned all this in a job shadow for a autobody shop

^ A lot of shops won't touch work if its been prep'd by anybody else, or at least they won't guarentee it farther than the end of the shop's driveway.
