Door Vertical Black Plastic Trim

I'm having an issue that I feel reasonably confident is common. On my 'fire coupe on both the driver and the passenger side the shiny black piece of plastic trim is pealing so that now suddenly more than half of the length of it the shiny layer has peeled off, leaviing it half dull and half black. For those of you that have had this problem did painting them seem to fix it or did that end up peeling to? And have you all painted it while on the car after taping off or did you somehow remove them? I've done some searching for window trim and haven't really hit pay dirt yet. Thanks for any help everyone.

it happens to everyone's trim. mine is peeling and faded, my roommate's z24 is doing the same thing. they are really easy to remove if you want to repaint them. put the window down, pull off the rubber trim next to the pillar, remove 3 screws and the piece comes right off. if you have any more questions, feel free to ask

Ah ha. That does help. I'll head out there tomorrow if the rain ever stops to see if I can get those suckers off to repaint. Thanks for the info Alias.

are you talking about the piece vertical to the window? Mine is poping out but just in the upper section and I think rain is flowing down to the bottom of the door, who is rusted ...take a look

If your not gonna take them off to fix that gap, throw some silicon in there

its simple.. i dont have a picture offhand but i dont think its needed...

roll the window down... pull the weatherstripping off (its just stuck on there and will stick back when your done).. you will see the 3 tabs and screws.. it has a lip that holds it to the door on the other side..

the tabs break very easily (dude with picture, thats your problem) so be careful with them...

All 3 tabs are broken on my drivers side.. it still stays on there.. but you get the gap shown in the picture... It is also what applies pressure to the window to give it a seal... once the tabs break, you start seeing the window overlap the weatherstripping at the top as there is now like an inch of play in the window... i see it on a ton of sunfires/cavaliers everywhere...

like i said,, yours seems to be pulling out on the top... which i would guess is at least your top tab broken..
just hit a junkyard and pull one off that doesnt need paint and has the tabs intact.. i got mine for $5.. its the same piece on every 95-05 sunfire or cavalier coupe (provided you have a coupe, of course.. lol)

Hitting the junkyard ftw! Sounds a better idea.
