Tuesday, June 06, 2006 9:21 AM
Well i just got my type j sides out of the paint booth. when we where installling them we used 3m double sided tape to hold the back part to the car, and for some reason the tape is not even holding it tight to the car its starting to pull still. i was woundering if anyone knows of anything i could use to make it hold and not pull away from the car like it is now

I believe 3M makes an adhesion promoter. It supposedly increases the bonding strenght of the tape.

Use 3M heavy duty tape. First your going to want to sand the back of the side skirt where the tape attaches and then clean it with acetone to get the grease or impurities off then attach your tape. Do the same thing to where it is going to attach to the side of the car but use a degreaser and scrub it so it will stick good. stick it then hold it there for about a minute or so then put a wrapped up wrag over the side skirt where its attached and then use a piece of packing tape and tape below the skirt and stretch it above tight and stick it above the skirt to provide pressure to the skirt till the tape settles and sticks. You have to make sure you prep things right or it wont stick...i bet thats why your wont stick. Also use screws on the lip of the fender wells instead of tape.
