Is converting to 02 & below tails from 03+ as easy as going to a junkyard, getting the trunk lid and tail lights off an old cav, and swapping the lid and tails on my car?

yes it is.. all you need are the tails and the trunk lid.
The outer tails fit like a glove from the 95-05 models. The only difference is the inner tails cause of the 03-05 bezel. So yes, if you obtain a 95-02 trunk, then you'll be able to use tails from 95-02 no problem
either get a trunk lid or purchase a trunk bezel
but I would just get a trunk lid personally because im not a fan of the bezel. But other than having to get the trunk lid it all fits perfect
