clearing a C/F hood??

My carbon fiber hood is getting kind of cloudy and I have seen several people on here say that you can scuff it and take the cloudiness out of the gelcoat then clear it and that keeps it from fogging up again.

My question is this, I talked to a guy i work with that is a painter and has painted many cars, but he didn't know how well a regular automotive clear would stick to the gelcoat, since its made to be put on a base coat. Also, since there isn't a real liner on the bottom of the hood would the heat from the motor effect the clear??

So can I use just a basic automotive clearcoat without any problems????

Thanks!

it sounds fine to me i know that my buddy is going to use regular clear on my hood because i have to rock chips in the gel coat from a truck and it shouldnt crack from the motor if it gets that hot you have a problem

Your fine. Best bet with any CF hood is to have it re-cleared. My body guy has started to spray candy over CF its SO sick

Snazzi sprayed blue pearl over his c/f hood several years ago and it looked awesome.

So you're fine.

ok, thats what i thought but he was questioning it, I think it was just because hes more into restoring old cars and doesn't know much about these types of cars and he was scared he was gonna wreck my hood.

Anybody know the best grits to sand with to get the cloudiness out??

Thanks.
