Fixing a key scratch and painting handles
Tuesday, December 26, 2006 8:19 AM
On January 2nd, I'm putting the cavy in the shop for painting. I have a hideous key scratch on my upper driver-side door. It is a gigantic X mark right under the driver window and it bothers me soooo much. I think an old girlfriend did it, but oh well. Also, I think since I'm getting my door fixed, I might as well get my handles painted too. I already got the mirrors done since they were removable. My local shop told me to get the handles painted, they will have to fix the scratch, paint the handles and clear both doors together. At the same time, they will blend the paint to match. The paint and labor will cost me about $198 with tax included. Any advise? If not, Wish me luck guys.

Before I dropped my car off, I had a long talk with my painter. His shop has a great rep and he has 11 years experience and knows exactly what he is doing. He is also the same guy who painted my side mirrors and my grill for me. I will have my car out the shop this friday evening and I will post pics.

The new paint is good to go and I now have the car back. I'm gonna clean it up some first because paint/body workers always mess up the interior with dust and dirt. Also, I'm gonna post some pics today hopefully. They did an awesome job.

Also, they did mess up a bit, but they are going to correct it when my paint cures. They forgot my darn handles, lol! It';s all good though since they wil gladly do it for me later.

Ok here are the pictues. Excuse me if they are a lil bit large. I have a fetish for Hi-Res, lol. Also, I removed the side molding before taking it to the shop for paint. Looks pretty smooth. All comments welcome, thx.

This picture here is where the big key scratch was. You can't even tell that damage was even there. I was so happy, lol. Just imagine a bix "X" covering a 1/3 of the door, eww.
