My New HID's...need some opinions
Wednesday, February 28, 2007 2:58 PM
so im pricing hid kits for my car and i just wanted to see some peoples opinions on bulb temp...i know it really comes down to what i want but i just want to see some pics of different temps and some pics of your cars from a decent distance with different temps... im really thinking of getting 6000k because i want them to only have a little blue in them, im not a big fan of the obscene blue tints but im really on the fence when it comes to 6000k and 8000k, everywhere i look that has written info is different, saying 6000k is straight white, and some say 6000k is heavy blue...i want something in between, like i said, obscene blue is a no go for me...

so please, let me see your opinions and pics of current hid bulb temps.... ive seen plenty pics of the blubs on garage doors and whatnot, but i would like to see a profile view of the car from 10-30 feet away if possible, but whatever you guys submit, i would greatly appreciate it.... *JBO

Id go with 6K. 6K has a very slight tint of blue to them. Or if your looking for a white only 5k would be better. I have 10K and there bright blue. Which i really like. I bought my lights from cqlights.com and a few friends have the same kits and have never had any problems. I dont really have any night shots to show ya but i have a cpl day times..

sorry for the post whoring but i meant to say "Conquer" not cyclone.....and also they advertise this:

"As you probably noticed, some sellers are selling hid kits with starters. Those are older generation HID kits. If you are desire the best and newest technology, you should only consider kits without starters (generation 2)."

...is this a BS selling strategy or are they being for real...the ballasts look smaller, and im already dealing with limited space....just wondering what you HID pros have to say...

For what it is worth, Here is my two cents

HID is a craze and ppl are starting to realize that the lights on the older cars are pure cr@p ...but I have heard that AM HID is also getting more notice from your local cops. Because there are some people that have no clue on how to properly install HID / Headlight conversions and are causing problems out on the road we gotta suffer.

That said...If you are looking for HID headlights, you really must remember that you get what you pay for. You gotta do your research and find who has problems with what conversion kits. I bought some kit a couple of years ago for around $200 (sry dont remember brand) off E-Bay, and wished I had not. Once I had the kit in my hands, it was clearly obvious that they were cheaply made and thus the price. I had bought them and at that time did not have the money to just replace with better lights. So I installed them anyway. I regretted that for sure. I had to modify the wiring harness provided because it was too short and the plastic connector was a poor fit, (ended up taping it on) and was generally a very poor kit. I had the kit on like 2 weeks before the ballast on one side burnt out and the seller was not any help because I had to modify the harness to make it fit (they blamed me even though I have skills) I was glad that I had not cut the cars original wire, as I had to put the old bulbs back in.
I recommend that if you are buying, spend more than $350 for a kit because at that price, you either got a really good deal, or you got the other s***.
My recommended sites are Brightlights or HID-Sin. One other might be look at the McCulloch kits on Amazon.

Also if you change from Halogen to HID, please do us all a favor and do it right, change out the lens assembly to one that properly reflects the light. Keeps the brightness down and the cops off your back for blinding people.

Like i said just my two cents

i already have projectors, and thus shouldnt have a problem with blinding other people...im still waiting on replies from people with HID's about whether or not the ballasts that have the igniters included are better or worse...most of the brands im looking at ive asked peoples histories with them and have gotten pretty good reviews...but im still waiting on an answer/pics of 6k vs 8k....and thanks rayzor for lookin out...

Here's a pic of the HID's with the igniter built in....

Here's a pic of them without...

To answer you question about the separate ignitor or not...Look at it this way...the high end cars with the HID factory stock have the single units. I think that they just might have it right.

Kelvin temp scale is a matter of choice. 6K is a whiter light with great reflective properties. The 8K is more blue and since the blue color is a shorter wave-length, not as good on the reflective properties. (otherwise known as you will not see as clearly as someone with the 6K setup). Also a bad thing about the 8K bulb, if your local cops wanna be the 'pig', they could possibly give you a ticket for the "blue" lights. Most won't unless you have a record with them or they have nothing better to do in your 'One-Horse Town'

i was looking at a few friends' HID's last night after work and i realized im going with a 6000k-6500k light depending on which company i go with. thanks for the insight on your last post, that was the nail in the coffin for the 8k's...
