My 01 came with the old headlights, the ugly ones wiht plastic ridges to focus the light. After a small fender (and guardrali) bender, the lights were replaced wiht the new ones that have clear bezels and mirror surface behind the bulb. What model year did they change at the factory? 2003?
the lights changed for model year 2000 and again for model year 2003. if you got the "old" headlights in your 2001, you either A) dont have a 2001, or B) you've been in an accident where the bumper, supports, and headlights were changed.

Iam not sure what to tell you - I bought the car brand new in 2001 and it came with those lights.

This doesnt make sense to me.

I've got a Canadian 03 cavalier, and it was the first year in canada they used the new style lights...
Are you saying you have the 'old style' meaning your lights were 2 piece? Turn signal separate from H/L?
03 was the first year they brought the 1 piece H/L turn signal back since the 1st gen...

so what ones do you have?
It had the 1995-99 style head lights
After the accident they were replaced with the clear ones.
are you talking about the amber part in the corner? cause its impossible to have those headlights on a brand new 01
Well that's what was on it when it was brand new from the dealer. Impossible or not, that's what it was.
yeah dude its IMPOSSIBLE, they were NOT like the 95-99 if the car was brand new and a 2001

i think i figured it out. the factory lamps for the 00-02 have slight lines on them (pretty sure).
so heres what happened after the OEM lamps(the factory installed ones) where damaged in the accident. he went to get new ones. but probably got them from NAPA or parts source and not the dealer. so the lamps he just bought are aftermarket OEM replacements probably made by TYC.
some times aftermarket lamps look identical to the stock one. but usually not, there cheaply made and the quality in bad to keep the cost down.
if the new ones are from the dealer im lost.

Ill get the VIN later today and will also look at manufacuring dates on other parts, but it was the insurance company that paid for all the repairs, I didnt go to any store to buy anything. The bill of sale says it's 2001.
You who is 'calling BS' - holy crap, do you really think I am lying?? What the hell is with you??
Perhaps the lenses aren't as thick as the early early ones, and it's early production 2001. I have NO IDEA please stop telling me I am lying to you.
Here is the VIN: 1G1JCS2481741XXXX (last 4 are numbers but Im leaving them out)

The lights on there now are like the second one at the top.
I don't have pictures of the original lights. Why would I take pictures of a stock car???
So it's really a 2001? The insurance company looks these things up when they do your policy, they came back with 2001. Unless it's IMPOSSIBLE that it's really a 2001.
i dont get it? so whats the problem?

I just thought it odd the lights on my car were originally different from those that I though came with that model year.
NOW does it make sense?
Still doesn't make sense. You have the lights that you are supposed too. Just like every other stock 2000-2002 Cavalier on this earth.
I would like some of the stuff you are smoking.
