Those with eyelids, molded or not, question about inspections
Monday, May 21, 2007 9:08 AM
What problems are you guys having with inspections...if any and what have you done about them? I've looked over the list of illegal modifications to my car as per my states guildlines and I haven't found a single one in ref to headlight "obstruction" as the inspection fail report I have says...

Any info would be GREAT

thats interesting...i cant say ive ever heard of that, but i guess it makes sense.

with the fail report, are you required to go back to the same place for another inspection? if not, start going to inspection places and asking if they can visibly see anything that would make you fail. if anyone says no, get the inspection done there.

with molded eyelids (re: fire lids) it should either look stock enough that you might be able to pass, or if you are a modded car you should be able for them to not notice. either way, you can always argue that the light output isnt affected by it because the sunfire lights are "dead" at the top and produce no light there.

Thats what i noticed about sunfires, even once you mold eyelids, you still havent overlapped the light output, because the top couple inches of the headlights are all housing

ya, if thats the case, take it back, have him park it facing a wall, and turn on the headlights with the hood open and closed. show him the light pattern isnt affected

i have my state inspection license for pennsylvania at least and as much as you guys might not like it, the eyelids are ILLEGAL for inspection. In the manual for inspection it states "nothing can obstrust or cover in any way the headlight assembly" if an inspection station fails you theres nothing you can do, they have the right to. i would pass it probably depending on which ones they were but they can fail you for it. just saying for pennsylvania i dont know where you live or the laws there.

I live in PA... had eyelids on my Sunfire for 4 years I think... never had a problem lol. Like was said before it has to obstruct the light output... if done correctly it looks like part of the hood anyway. So I guess it depends.

I had to remove the eyelids on my '99 Z24 2 years ago. They weren't molded and I was asked to just remove them and come back. So I did.

Wasn't too big of a deal, but aggravating in the fact that they wouldn't let me remove them in his yard. I had to go out of view of the inspection station and then go back. Ridiculous!

sorry to thread jack, but how do you go about looking up illegal mods per state. i googled " texas laws" and came up with nothing, unless i didnt look hard enough. i need to find out if eyelids and shaved door handles are illegal in texas. i'ver already shaved the handles. eyelids and lambos are in the near future. thanks

well with regards to laws, here in ontario we have the highway traffic act, which outlines all the rules and regulations with regards to vehicles, so look for something like that specific to your state. with shaved handles, you wont really find a specific answer, but in my case (last vehicle had shaved handles) i passed inspection because the doors still opened from the outside and inside, so i met the requirements. the mechanic said he didnt like it, but had to pass me
