Drilling holes for a spoiler/lip

Im looking to swap my 03+ trunk for the 00-02 model. I found a bezel freshly painted in my stock color for cheap. But i cant go spoilerless..

Is it alright to drill holes through the clear coat and paint? will it crack and pull? rust?

I need to know this before i go buying all this stuff.

If so, what tools should i use? Any special type of drill?

Thanks JBO!

I just matched the bolts/studs to a drill bit and went at it, but my trunk was painted after i drilled the holes. Tossing some painters tape on the trunk and drilling threw the tape should work.

you still want to put paint on the drilled holes, because there is bare metal there, and will rust.

so at the least, use touch up paint, and hit the drilled holes with it before mounting the spoiler.
