'99 fire budget build
Friday, September 04, 2009 1:36 AM
This is my car so far; now I need some advice on where to go strictly in the exterior realm. Like the title says budget build; so that rules out bodykit's and anything labor or cost necessary

the exterior doesnt look bad but if your talking budget build, id say leave it alone. if you can't afford a kit, or shaving @!#$ or painting theres not much really there to do.

It looks pretty good as is, and actually reminds me a lot of how my 99 fire started out. I say leave it as is, and save your money.

Nightshade the tails
Muffler / tip to get rid of the rust
clear corner lenses
paint mirrors and door handles
darker tint
sand then paint drums and calipers black to hide rust
swap the trunk for one with no spoiler
Color match the rear bezel to the car

^I just put a 95-99 style GT front on my 99 fire se and I had to trim the crush guards alot just to let you know. Cause someone told me that the GT bumper wouldn't interfere with the SE front crush guard, but it did. Maybe you knew that but I thought I would let you know. You'll love the upgrade I know I do.

I got the amber turn signals out of a 00-02 GT front. No scrapped 95-99 Gt's around me.

If I was the one that told you the SE crush guard would work with the GT bumper cover, I apologize. I am not very familiar with the '95-'99s and it seemed as though the openings were in the same places and all so I just assumed it would work fine. Sorry about that. Glad you got it figured out though. Any chance you'll be posting pictures anytime soon?!

If you guys want brand new ones, check out GM Parts Direct. They are about $67.00 a pair including shipping. The part number is: #5978215 for one light. The lights are interchangeable meaning the part number is the same for both sides.

wire harness is slightly different though, and by wire harness, I mean the gray backing piece that goes into the housing.

J TO ENVY, hi long time no chat , I am not sure if you were the one that told me about the crush guard or not. But yeah I know you are not familiar with the '95-'99s, thats cool. How would you when you had 00-02's.
I had the right tools to trim up the crush guards at the body shop. Yeah the crush guard was hitting the area where the honeycomb grill is at and near the round turn signals on the back side of the bumper.
No I haven't got any pics of the new bumper on the car cause the day we installed the bumper/lights/splash guards the following day I put the car in storage. I wish I had cause alot of people wanted to see it.
Now the turn signals wasn't to bad to install. The corner 194 socket hooked up fine. But I had to cut and rejoin the 00-02 socket on my 95-99 wiring for the round front amber turn signals.

I am also installing the rear 95-99 GT bumper come spring when I take the car out. I got the bumper all sanded and ready for paint. But I am gonna do a little custom work to be a little different. I am going to shave the reflectors that are on the back of the bumper to smooth it all out and I don't have dual exhaust and the GT rear has duals so I am going to see if my body man can rig something up to fill in the cut out on the right side so it will look like there was no exhaust outlet at all on the right. (No I don't want dual exhaust)

Yes, I was semi-familiar with the '95-'99 SEs since my mom had a '98 SE Sedan, but I have never been up close and personal with a '95-'99 GT. I'm glad to hear you got it trimmed and all though.

Yes, I would definitely love to see pictures of it! It is so clean and subtle, just the way I like it . Makes me miss my GT and my Sedan .

I can't wait to see the rear bumper finished. It sounds like it will definitely go well with the clean subtleness you already have going on! Best of luck with it.
