I finally found the VHT niteshades in advance auto. But no clear coat? Where can you find that other than the internet? or is there another clear coat you can use for this.
thanks in advance
I used the Duplicolor Truck and SUV clear. Advance carries it.
it worked really well?
and when do you put the clear coat on?
right after u spray the niteshades, or after dry to touch? or what? im not quite sure
take them to a body shop and have them use automotive grade clear. you'll thank me.

he speaks the truth, but if you're going to spray it urself, wait until after the vht has dried. there should be a listing on the can as to how long it takes to dry.
So i'm guessing that'd be overnight, or just do it after it dries to the touch in 3 hours.
Why not just use tint film? That way it keeps glossy look, doesnt look flat painted, and if you screw up or dont like it its removable instead of having to buy a new set.

x2
Doing this, mine turned out like glass, and I've had many people stop me at red lights, asking where I bought my lights from....
Spray as much VHT Niteshades as you want...and then let them dry overnight....do a wetsand with 1000 grit, and then 2000 until it looks like glass and is PERFECTLY smooth.
Next, take them to a bodyshop, and ask for a professional clear.
You can get the bodyshop to do the prep work for you, but if you know what you are doing with water and sandpaper, haha, you will save some cash on the labour time.

no offense but i doubt film would withstand weather very well. plus to get it to seal perfectly you would need to sand off all the OEM lettering markings on the lense so it would be flat. which wouldnt be a big deal, just saying.

Here is a pic of mine..
This is 4 coats,Then after they dried,I polished them with a Fine cut polish, untill all glossy...No Clear Coat is on them,And they still look like this 5 years later..
When I did my tails they wanted $90 to put a coat of clear on my tails, fat chance.
I used a Duplicolor automotive clear, cant remember the name, but it was about $12 a can from Advance.
Also you want to either clear just a few hours after the Nightshade, or let it dry for a couple days, and wet sand with 2000 grit before the clear.
Here's how mine came out...
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
i fall in love with ur tails every time i see them.....
Transporter - As much as I hate those damn light bars, especially when you didn't have it to start with, I have to admit the paint job on it looks really good. That's exactly how I've done tail lights before, and they always turn out nice. I tend to get a little impatient, so it's not the best job, but dry>wetsand>clear works out nicely.
* * BIG FOR SALE POST * *
Thanks to the both of you
Every know and then I think about changing tails, but I was just sick of having the same exact tails as half the J's out there.

VHT will only look as good as the time you put into them. Mine look like glass. I spent an hour wet sanding and buffing each tail light also.
I did 1500 then 2000 then used 3M Finesse-it II polishing compound.
Indeed, prep is everything, and you have to treat the Nightshades as a clear, because it acts much more like a clear coat than it does a base color.

I agree.
I just ordered a lighter shade for my S2000 Headlights and Tails.
Well NiteShades is removable. Give me an hour and some sand paper and its gone.
for how much j-body tail lights cost these days you could afford to nightshade every single different style throughout the years and throw them all away to get a stock set and still have enough to money to go buy hookers.

Sorry man but peeling it off is easier and less risky. Just my opinion and personal preference. To each their own.
