Was going to try this mod on my cavy if it would work but apparently it is not as easy as the last one I did... If your not familiar with what I am talking about it is this, wiring a relay into the headlight harness that is switched by the high beam positive wire to put power to the low beam positive and in turn you will have your high and low beams on together to put more light on the road.
That is exactly how it worked with my Beretta, all I needed was a relay, a few connectors, some wire, and an in line fuse holder. The cavy is a different story though. From what I see in wiring diagrams the headlights are switched by the ground.. and when the high beams are switched on the ground wire for the low beams is then energized so then there are two positive leads to the lows...
I have been racking my brain on this all night and I can't think of what to do... I have drawn up several diagrams, some with several relays and connecting to different parts of the harness and I cant think of what will make it work.. About every drawing I do that is close there always ends up being something I forget that blows the whole circuit...
I searched forums with no avail, I did find the post on having Fogs on with high beams which I will have to do later.
So has anybody done this and/or know what I need to do to make this work??? I'm thinking I have to put the relay in with the ground somehow?? Maybe find a wire or two to snip at a relay or something like for the fogs?? Or is there no way to do this and am I wasting my time??? Everybody here at school is saying to just put 2 toggle switches on the dash and call it good but I think no...
If it is Kardain's post you are referring to, I do not think this will work... like I said... when the high beams go on the ground for the low beams becomes a positive... so if you switch power through the relay to the positive side of the low beams you wont get a complete circuit it will be two positives... It would work perfectly fine if it was just switching power between the positive wires but thats not how it is working
I understand what you're trying to do but I had a similar problem with neg being used as a switch etc...

If you're really interested in doing what you want, have you considered rewiring everything and bypassing the pcm for the headlights compeltely?
Then you can make positive the switch, and wire the headlights to come on exactly how and when you want them?

I got it figured out now... I dont know why they were so technical with headlight wiring... I mean... its a light.. whats the big deal.. But yeah got that done.. there should be a better writeup done on that, maybe added to the first post of the DRL sticky... Now for the fogs with high beams...
So how did you do it?

You only need one relay, guess it is because the high beams are in parallel, the bosh 30 amp 4 pins, will be enough
1º Pin 30 to low beam ground
2º Pin 85 to positive hi beam
3º Pin 86 to ground hi beam
4º Pin 87 to ground

Only minus is I lost the bright pilot light on the dash.
I don't know if the wiring on your 03 is different than my 99, I think they are the same but not 100% on that.
I like the way this is done way more than my Beretta was... This doesn't require the pos from battery like those did... Wish I would have know that before, I wouldnt have bought that inline fuse holder, but i'm sure I will find use for it later...
I got a new problem guys... The simultaneous high/low beams works amazing, now I'm wishing I didn't have to switch back to lows when cars are coming at me
While I was there I did the mod to have fogs on with high beams...
I don't know what caused this, the high/low mod or the fog mod, but whenever I turn my car on, and take off the parking break (since its 5spd) my DRL's come on for a second like they should when park break is taken off... then after that second they spazz out flashing on and off rapidly for a few seconds and then shut off completely until I turn the car off and back on, it only happens once when car is turned on. Its not a real big deal to me, DRL's aren't much of my concern, but the whole flashing on and off rapidly whenever I turn my car on is what I don't like.
Any Ideas what this is? I know I can switch the relay for fogs back and unplug the high/low one to test but why would either of them make the DRL's do this???
Well i installed HIDs on my sunfire, and i disabled the DTR so i didnt burn up the ballasts by breaking off one of the legs on the DTR relay thats in the fuse box and plugged it back in. It has to be the trigger/actuator leg of the relay though. and it makes that stupid annoying DTR light on the dash flash all the time. I got rid of that problem by taking my cluster out and taping over it. but im assuming you probably already have that stupid light flashing due to the malfunction of the DTRs in the first place. If you look in the fuse box on the dash, it outta have the relay in it, and its the only relay in there. if you pull it out and break off the leg that would be in the upper lefthand side. it will totally disable the DTRs and not give you that dim left healight problem.
