I did a search for "installing a spoiler" and did not like the idea of putting toothpaste or grease on the pegs of the spoiler to mark the holes. I have a 2000 Cavalier with no spoiler. I took a 97 Z-24 spoiler off a junk car and made a paper pattern of the 97's trunk lid with all the holes. The pattern consists of like 6 pieces of paper taped together and each turned slightly to follow the curve of the trunk lid. I measured from each corner of the trunk lid by the window to each end of the pattern, so that I could place the pattern in the same place on my 2000 trunk lid. Are the trunk lids essentially the same or am I going to have problems here. I also noticed that on my trunk lid there is areas underneath cut out for the bolts to come through. I wonder if I could just drill center in those areas and it would be perfect and line up, but I fear the later spoilers could have a different bolt pattern than the 97. Thanks for any info.

Trunk lid 95-04 are exactly the same, how I did it is went out and bought a pack of the paper hole reinforcement things and put them over the little pegs and put the spoiler on then slid them down so they stick to the trunk and you have a nice perfect little target to drill into, worked beautifully.

Personally, I'd just grab the trunk lid with the spoiler and replace yours entirely. That way if you ever change your mind, it's as easy as bolting your stock trunk back on.
The trunk lid on the 97 Z-24 was a little rusty had one of those giant CB antennas drilled into it. I immediately did a face palm when I saw it.
That's a cool idea using the paper hole reinforcement labels. I'm going to place my pattern on my lid and sharpie where the holes would be, then place the spolier on there and see how close it is before I drill it. Then, I get to paint it since it is red.

The holes for an 03-05 LS spoiler are different actually. I had a 00-02 trunk lid and spoiler, and put an 03 ls wing on it, I had 2 extra holes that were previously required for the '00 z24 spoiler that were visible and left unused. I had to shave them, when i put the spoiler on the trunk lid. I have pics in my photobucket account if you need references.
instead of drilling, which can cause dents and low spots, it's easier to just find a used trunk lid to fit your year/model of spoiler and go with that, just have it repainted. Keep yoru old lid, if you want or if you think you'll get bored/sick of it. Esp if you want a shaved lock cylinder, ect.

a little off topic, but does anyone know if the spoiler mounting holes are the same from 95-99 to 00-02?
