I have a plain jane '96 Cavalier with the OHV 2.2 with 211K miles. Based on the positive comments I've read on the site, I'd like to trade it in on a newer Cavalier that has the Ecotec engine.
What year did they start using the Ecotec in the Cavalier? Is there anything in particular I should look for as potential problems on the newer Cavaliers with the Ecotec?
Also, does the Ecotec have a screw-on Schrader-valve type fitting to put a fuel pressure gauge on?
Thanks for any comments.

Yeah, I know.
But if I wait until the motor gives up the ghost, I'll be lucky to get $50 for it.
If I trade it in while its still running, its at least worth several hundred or so.
2002 was the first model year they put the ecotec in, but it was only offered in the ls sport model, and even some of those had the 2200 so make shure you check under the hood to make shure it says ecotec. All 2003- 05 cavaliers have the ecotec
the engines seem to be pretty reliable, i have not herd of any very common problems yet.
and any car with those kinda miles isnt going to get much for a trade in, but yea that's a given

Yes.
i could be wrong, but isnt that only on the 03+ ecotecs? i think the 02 is more complicated.
03+ has the log style fuel rail 02 had the gay spider looking piece of @!#$ they call the fuel rail.... the schrader is not on the rail though its on the lines going to the fuel rail, all 03+ have the shrader I don't know anyone iwth an 02 eco so I couldn't help you out on if that on has it or not
The 02's have a shrader valve on the fuel line.
keep the 96 for daily driver
definitely. means less modding headaches for the Eco.
