I ordered Sunfire Projectors from him and he said after he receives my stock housings he would start to build my Projectors and they would be done in a week. I don’t even know why he had to wait for my stockers since he built my projectors in someone else’s housings. Anyway they were 95-99 housings and I wasn’t happy with that, because I sent him my original housings that came with my car a 2000 Sunfire GT. The housings from 2000 are a bit different than 95-99 the breather holes seem better in 2000+ housings well that is if you don’t silicone them closed as Josh did. If I sent him a housing from a 2000 Sunfire I expect the same in return. If I wanted the Projectors built in a pre 2000 housing I would go to the Junker and get them and send that to him instead of sending him my original 2000 housings that came with my car.
He said that he used my housings for someone else’s build and he used someone else’s housings for my build and since all Projectors are the same he was going to send me my housings instead of the 95-99 ones. I said that would be fine, and he said it would be a week. Well a month and a half went by, and finally I received my headlights. Well one housing was mine, the other wasn’t because it was cracked on the bottom edge and mine had no cracks, unless he cracked it by accident or something and didn’t tell me. They were both 2000+ style housings.
The lights were of inferior quality. The paint was bubbled and rough, and there were many runs. It looks like he didn’t even bother to sand or prime before he applied the paint they looked horrid. He uses the Nissan FX 35 OEM Projectors for the builds. I found out that some of them are clear lens and some of them are a bit hazy. I looked at mine and one is the hazy lens and one is the clear lens. So he didn’t even build my projectors with a matching pair. The cut-off is a bit sharper on the clear lens than the hazy ones, so they will not match, not to mention one of the clear lenses that seal the Sunfire housing was cracked. I told him about it and all he said was “if it gets worse let me know” no mention of sending them back for a replacement or anything. The ballasts he sent me are counterfeit Hella’s you can get them on EBay for $20. I confronted him about it and he said that they are real Hella’s made in Germany. He was full of it because I did my research, and they are clones they are counterfeit to look like Hella. They are of inferior quality and I do not expect them to last anymore than 3 months. I understand if I want OEM ballasts that its going to cost me, that fine. I’m willing to pay, I’m the type of person that I doesn't want the hassle. I'd rather pay and get no hassle, but he did not offer me that option he just said that they were Hella. Then when I received them I did see that they were counterfeit aftermarket junk. I will use them till they die, when they die I will purchase real Hella OEM Ballasts, and make a plug-and-play harness for them myself.
He said these Ballasts have a 1 year warrant. I don’t care, I don’t even want his warranty. They will just die again anyway, why not get it over with once and for all instead of taking these damn lights out every few months for new crap Ballasts. I was not happy with the lights since they look like they were made by a 7 year old in art class, but I said I might as well well put them on the car since I paid for them. So I got to install them to find out that they don’t work properly they only work one at a time. If I connect both lights one will rapidly blink and turn itself off. So I spent all day trying everything and following his crappy instructions which I had to basically guess on my own anyway. I finally got a hold of him just to hear that I need to purchase a wiring harness from him, because my stock wires cannot handle the current. He couldn’t tell me this before I spent all day horsing around and trying everything, and decreasing the life of my HID bulbs and Ballasts by letting them put on a rapid flashing light show? He must of known that it might not work. I think he just needed a guinea pig to see if it would work, and for how long. So if there was no problems he would never have to bother with the harnesses for any customers with J’s. He put me and my family in danger by telling me to plug and play this to my stock wires.
I did some research and on some cars it works just using the stock wires but in the long run they heat up and melt and cause a fire. I was just lucky that in J’s the stock wires just do not work for both the lights one cancels out. I specifically asked him “does it come with everything I need” he said “yes”. Then I asked him “is it plug and play” he said “yes”. I asked him this before I placed my order. So I purchased the harness from his web site for almost $100 Canadian. He told me before I purchased this harness that it would be just plug and play. Well I get this harness, and its hardly plug and play. The connectors for the Bi-Xenon’s (High beams) does not even fit what is on the Projector. The two options were cut, strip and solder them, but I didn’t like that. If I ever need to remove the lights for any reason I would have to cut the wire or melt the solder, or make a custom made plug-and-play Bi-Xenon (High beam) harness. So that’s what I did, I made my own plug-and-play harness for the high beams.
The ring terminals that came with the harness are of inferior quality made of tin like you find on a Coke can. The rings are not even big enough to go around any bolts for the ground or the battery bolt. If you drill them bigger there will be nothing left of it to contact not to mention if you attempted to drill that tin it would just fall apart. So I went and purchased all new good quality ring terminals that are big enough to go on the bolts and that are not made of Coke cans. So I cut the old ones off and put the new ones on. So much for plug-and-play it was a full days work just to get this harness to work for a J-Body. Finally when I had it all connected it worked. That is until it rained the next day and one of my housings fogged up so bad that you couldn’t even see the projector inside. So I took them off (thank god for my thinking ahead making my plug-and-play high beam harness) and brought both headlights inside. I left them sit for a week and they wouldn't un-fog. So I had no choice but to take the lens off. So I took the lens off with baby force and they instantly cleared up. When I took the lens off I slightly cracked the corner a bit like an inch. So I figured I should take the other one off too, since it came with a crack and jugging from the first one the second one is probably on its way to fogging also. So I took it off also with baby force. They were on there so crappy no wonder they were fogging and water was getting in them. He sealed them like @!#$! So I ordered 2 clear Sunfire lenses from his web site. Another $136 Canadian! About an hour later he contacted me telling me that they would be sent out the next day USPS Express it would arrive in 3-4 days.
Well a week went by and I contacted him by E-Mail and phone so many times that my fingers were getting numb. I left msg after msg and no reply from him. I think he was avoiding me since he didn’t send them out when promised. Finally I received my lenses 2 weeks later just to find out one does not fit, they were too small. So I contacted him about the lenses and told him I’m going to re-use one of my old ones, and ill use one of the new lenses that did fit. I told him I would like a refund for the one that didn't fit and I would send it back. I mailed him a little over a week ago still no response from him. So now I guess I have to eat the $136 because I’m really hungry. So I have to make this all work out somehow now. I figured since I have both lenses off I minus well fix the crappy paintwork he did. So I went to the auto-body store and purchased all the materials to get them looking professional it cost me about $70 for all the materials. So now they look much better than before, not perfect. There is just some corners that’s is to hard to sand really well but I’m happy with the way they look now. Its close to perfect much better than before. A nice smooth glossy finish painted with Duplicolor high gloss black. Glossier than his crappy paint.
So now I have to find a solution for the lenses I’m thinking to re-use my old one the one that came from him with a small stress crack. Its an internal crack you cannot feel it with your hand on any side of the lens you can just see it in the right light. That side is the side that the new lens does not fit. The other side that I cracked an inch on top. I'll replace that one because the one for that side that he sent me fits. I'll keep the glued one just in case, I may need it someday. Since I’m never going to deal with him ever again. I’m going to seal the lenses with Windshield Urethane not that crappy Silicone he uses that backs off the seams in time due to heat and moisture. I’m also going to seal that small crack on the bottom of the housing with Windshield Urethane. I also unplugged the stock breather hole that he Silicone over in both housings so they will not fog up if water and moisture do find there way in. I doubt it, not with my crazy sealing job I plan to do, but you never know. You have to plan ahead, so that’s my experience with izntrbl. I will never deal with him ever again!
Its been a horrid nightmare these lights are well over a $1000 so far and they are still not on the car and I’m afraid its not going to end there. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to replace the ballasts in the near future so I’m ready for that. Its really sad when you pay premium for something and you receive crap and sometimes you pay crap and receive premium its funny how that works. Its also sad that I paid for work that I have to do myself anyway. Those lights are all my work now the only thing that is still his work is the mounting of the projector in the stock housing that’s it. I don’t even really know if that’s done right because the light output is worse than my halogens, because when he positions the Projectors in the housings the rotation matters for light output. So who knows if there even in there properly. I just like the look that the car has with them. The car looks like it has eyes, if it wasn’t for that I would give up on them already. The light output sucks balls and so does the cut-off, and I aimed them properly. Nothing like what you see from cars that come with them or from people that do proper retrofitting, with good OEM parts.
So that’s my rant worth a $1000+ for lights and $60 worth of long distance charges to California. Before giving him your money he is great he E-Mails you back every half hour, once he gets the gold mine, forget it. I lost so much time and money with these lights it’s not even funny. I’m pretty sure in the end I’m going to sell them and return back to stock lights, hassle FREE. I will have to buy new ones from the stealer ship for $600 since Josh ruined mine. I wouldn’t be happy with junkyard ones since there old and yellow, so it would have to be new OEM from GM. Oh well live and learn, has anyone had besides me inferior quality from Josh?
